JOE WITH COMPASSION

MATTHEW 1-2

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. KEYS TO HIS PERSON [Matthew 1]

1. His Godly Upbringing [v. 16-17, Proverbs 22:1]

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

2. His Good Standards [v. 18, 1 Corinthians 7:1] It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

3. His God-given Salvation [v. 19a, Galatians 3:11]

But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

II. KEYS TO HIS CHARACTER [Matthew 1]

1. Having been shown mercy he was merciful [v. 19, Luke 6:36]

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

2. Held Godliness in higher esteem than emotions [v. 19, Ephesians 4:26, Matthew 23:23]

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment , mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

3. Highly Receptive to the Word of God [v. 20-24a, James 1:22]

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

III. KEYS TO HIS CHOICES [Matthew 1:24b-2:23]

1. He Chose to be Patient [v. 24b-25]

2. He Chose to be Protective [2:13-15]

3. He Chose to be Paternal [2:19-23]

And in doing so chose obedience over fear.
