I. SONGS OF SALVATION
1. Extolling Relationship [Ps. 23]
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to
lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth
my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea,
though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a
table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with
oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the
days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever
2. Explaining Redemption [Ps. 32:1-2, Rom. 4:6-8]
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven; whose sin is
covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in
whose spirit there is no guile.
Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man,
unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they
whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man
to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
3. Exclaiming Incarnation [Ps. 110, Mt. 22:41-45]
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until
I make thine enemies thy footstool. The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength
out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be
willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of
the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. The LORD hath sworn, and will not
repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. The Lord at
thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. He shall
judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he
shall wound the heads over many countries. He shall drink of the brook in the
way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked
them, Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The
son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord,
saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make
thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
II. SONGS OF SECURITY [Ps. 23]
1. Revival [Ps. 32:3-7]
When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring
all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is
turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and
mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the
LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. For this shall every
one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in
the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. Thou [art] my
hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about
with songs of deliverance. Selah.
2. Restoration [Ps. 51:1-9]
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:
according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I
acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee
only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be
justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was
shapen in iniquity,; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou
desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me
to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I
shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones
which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out
all mine iniquities.
3. ReStart [Ps. 51:10-11]
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit
within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit
from me.
III. SONGS OF SERVICE
1. Scripture [Ps. 19:7-11]
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the
testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD
are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the
judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are
they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the
honeycomb . Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them
there is great reward.
2. Submission [Ps. 32:8-11]
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt
go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, [or] as the mule,
[which] have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle,
lest they come near unto thee. Many sorrows [shall be] to the wicked: but he
that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about. Be glad in the LORD,
and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all [ye that are] upright in
heart.
3. Soul Winning [Ps. 51:10-15]
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit
within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit
from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free
spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be
converted unto thee. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my
salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open
thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
