THIS IS THE WAY

Isaiah 30:1, 8-21

God says here, as long as Israel is going their own way, instead of His way, there will be trouble. This is not restricted to Israel as the Bible teaches the same for all people [Gal. 6:7-8]. Last week we looked at “This is the Day” and this week we look at “This is The Way”. May the Lord bless the preaching of His Word.

I. THE WAY OF GOD

1. The Way of God is Right [v. 21-22, Romans 3:12]

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

2. The Way of God is Rich [v. 23-26]

3. The Way of God is Rewarding [v. 27-31]

II. THE WAY OF CHRIST

1. The Way of Christ is the Way of Substitution [1 Peter 3:18]

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

2. The Way of Christ is the Way of Salvation [Acts 16:16-17, 31; 2 Peter 2:19-22]

And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

3. The Way of Christ is the Way of Serenity [Jn. 14:23-27]

III. THE WAY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. The Way of the Holy Spirit is the Way of Submission [Is. 30:1, 8-16, 21]

2. The Way of the Holy Spirit is the Way of Service [Luke 1:15, 76-79]

For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

3. The Way of the Holy Spirit is the Way of Science [Daniel 1:4]

Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

1 Corinthians 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

2 Corinthians 6:6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,

Colossians 2:2-3 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
