John 14:2-3, 1 Th.
4:16-17, Acts 1:10-11
Outline by Dr. John R. Rice and Pastor Rick Jackson
All the prophecies concerning Christ’s first coming were
fulfilled literally. There is more in the Bible about His 2nd coming than there
was about His first coming. His second coming is in 2 phases- the Rapture and
then 7 years later the Touchdown Coming. What will happen at the Rapture? WHAT
WILL HAPPEN WHEN JESUS COMES?
I. A GLAD SURPRISE
[Mt. 24:36-39]
-The Angels Do Not
Know [nor any man]
-The Devil Does Not
Know [v. 42-44]
-Jesus, on earth, did
not know [Mk. 13:32-37]
But of that day and
that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the
Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the
time is. For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his
house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and
commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the
master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or
in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto
you I say unto all, Watch.
II. A GLORIOUS
RESURRECTION [Rm. 8:10-11]
And if Christ be in
you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of
righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead
dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your
mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
-The Return &
Resurrection of the Saved Dead [1 Th. 4:13-18]
But I would not have
you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow
not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and
rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For
this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and
remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For
the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the
archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the
clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
-The Change &
Glorification of the Saved Living [1 Cor. 15:51-52]
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last
trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed.
-Deliverance from
Corruption [v. 54-57, Rm. 8:23]
So when this
corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on
immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy
victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But
thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
And not only they, but
ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves
groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our
body.
III. A GRAND REUNION
-Together with the
Saints [1 Th. 4:17]
Then we which are
alive and remain shall be caught up together
with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be
with the Lord.
-Together with the
Saviour [v. 17, 1 John 3:2]
Then we which are
alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet
the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Beloved, now are we
the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that,
when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
IV. A GREVIOUS
SEPARATION [Lk. 17:32-36]
Remember Lot's wife.
Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose
his life shall preserve it. I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in
one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall
be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall
be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
-Be ready
-different times of
day
-a world without
Christians
V. THE GRAVE
ACCOUNTING [Rev. 22:12]
And, behold, I come
quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work
shall be.
-all appear [2 Cor.
5:10-11]
For we must all appear
before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done
in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing
therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest
unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
-every man [1 Cor.
3:10-13]
According to the grace
of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the
foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he
buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid,
which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver,
precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest:
for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the
fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
