John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

If you don't know the Bible, you may go into sin. You need guidance from God.
You say, "I believe in asking the Holy Spirit to guide me." Do you really think you can come to God and say, "I really don't care about Your Word. I know you have written instructions there, but I want the Holy Spirit to show me what You want me to do"? Then do you think the Holy Spirit will do it? Not usually. The Holy Spirit works with the Bible and in cooperation with the Bible. God's Word has already told you what you ought to do about many things, and you cannot be a successful, prosperous Christian without a working knowledge of the Bible. - John R. Rice

You may be going your own way and yet truly be saved. Every Christian does in some matters. Sometimes you may want this or that. Maybe you do want it, but you have to admit you no more have a right to your own way. When Jesus died for sinners, the sinner legally died. The sinner is now counted dead to sin. He has no right now to his own way. - John R. Rice

If you are going to be a Christian, folks may look down on you. A true Christian loses some things. He loses some friends. Sometimes a person wonders what he will do about his unsaved friends since he is saved, how he will cut loose from his old crowd. Do not worry. You will have no trouble quitting them. If you stand up for Jesus like you should, and talk about the Lord to them every time you see them, they will quit you. You do not need to worry about their running after you. If you are living out and out for Jesus Christ, you will lose some friends. "All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (II Timothy 3:12). - John R. Rice

The world says you are a nut if you are a very active Christian. They say you have gone crazy over religion. My friends, if you are a child of God, they will hate you. This world hated Jesus Christ and it will hate you, too, if you love Jesus. - John R. Rice

Young people deceive themselves. young people do not know their own hearts. They do not quite see through things. I tell you, the Devil has no happy old people, because sin never did make anybody happy. - John R. Rice

You will not have peace if you go on in sin. One thing it will cost to stay on the Devil's side is real peace. You never will know real peace of heart outside Jesus Christ. - John R. Rice

Listen to me! You had better pay a price, whatever it is, to have power with God and influence over your children. You had better quit your wicked, evil companions and turn your heart from covetousness and repent of your sins and start the family altar. Just admit you have failed and then get busy for God and have it settled so your children will have some confidence in your kind of religion. - John R. Rice
