CONFORMED OR TRANSFORMED?

RM. 12:1-2, 1 CHRONICLES 13

I. DAVID DISPLEASED THE LORD [v. 1-13]

1. David’s idea [v. 1-6]

-David wanted to do a good thing

-He consulted other men. Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

-He didn’t consult the Lord.

Deuteronomy 32:28 For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them.

Psalm 16:7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

Psalm 33:11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

Psalm 119:24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.

2. David’s plan [v. 7-8]

-David followed the way of the world.

1 Sam. 6:7-8 Now therefore make a new cart, and take two milch kine, on which there hath come no yoke, and tie the kine to the cart, and bring their calves home from them: And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.

-Israel always wanted to be like the world

1 Samuel 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

Some Christians want to be like the world but that is not God’s will for our lives. Remember our text-

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

-He had much zeal

Romans 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

-He ignored God’s Word which said the Levites were to bear the ark on their shoulders. Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

3. David’s disaster [v. 9-13]

-David was partially responsible for Uzza’s death [v. 9-10]

“It’s never right to do wrong in order to do right.” God’s Word was at stake!

-David got mad at God though he was at fault [v. 11]

-David feared [v. 12-13]

II. DAVID CONSIDERS THE LORD [13:14-14:1-2]

1. Obed-edom, a Levite (1 Chr. 26), was blessed [v. 14]

2. David realized his position [14:1-2a]

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

3. David observed the undeserved blessing of God [v. 2b, Romans 4:6-7]

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

III. DAVID PLEASES THE LORD

1. David consults the Lord [14:10, 14, 17]

2. David studies the Word [15:2, 11-13]

3. David is in the place of blessing [15:25-26]
