The book of Daniel was written in 2 languages. 1:1-2:3 were written in Hebrew, the language of the Jews. 2:4-7:28 were written in Aramaic, the language of the Babylonians. 8:1-12:13 were written in Hebrew.

 

I. DANIEL’S VISION OF THE SECOND & THIRD KINGDOMS [v. 3-8, 20-22]

 

1. The Medes & the Persians [v. 3-4, 20]

The smaller horn represents Darius the Mede, the Higher horn pictures Cyrus the Persian.

2. The Greeks Under Alexander [v. 5-7, 21]

3. The Greeks Under Alexander’s Four Generals [v. 8, 22]

 

II. DANIEL’S VISION OF ANTIOCHUS EPIPHANES [v. 9-14, 23-25]

 

1. Fanatical

2. Satanic

3. Prophetic

Put an idol of Zeus in the Temple area around 168 BC, offered swine on the altar which was eventually cleansed by Judas Maccabeus

 

III. DANIEL’S VISION OF THE FUTURE [v. 1-2, 15-19, 26-27]

 

1. Shows the Omniscience of God [He not only knows what will happen, He understands it]

2. Shows the Grace of God in giving His Revelation

3. Shows the Omnipotence of God
