John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

God have mercy on denominations which put into authority and leadership unconverted men who are not under the blood, these who are to perish, thinking only that the preaching of the cross is foolishness. They have a "social gospel" about which they are very concerned, but they do not believe the Gospel that Christ gave us. They preach another gospel and Paul says about them "let them be damned." He said, by divine inspiration. - John R. Rice

The integrity of the Bible and the integrity of Jesus Christ stand or fall together. Jesus is the Word of God in a man. The Bible is the Word of God in a book. - John R. Rice

If the movies are made by wicked, immoral, irresponsible people, then the movies themselves are wicked and immoral and the influence is hurtful and pernicious. And the fact that the moving pictures of America, in the main, are made by a group of immoral people, unfit to be the leaders, unfit to be teachers, unfit to be the examples, unfit to be the entertainers or even the associates of our children and of ourselves. There are some exceptions, but those exceptions are in terribly bad company. -
John R. Rice

The spiritual results of the movies are unmeasured. Only eternity can tell the intricate pattern of evils done to the mind and heart of those who attend the movies. Protestant preachers and churches are usually belittled. Preachers are pictured as sissies. Deacons are pictured as hypocrites. Religion is often subtly held up to scorn. "Science," so-called, is held up as superior to the Bible. The theories of evolution are taken for granted. Little by little New Testament religion is put in the background. The movies leave little taste for fundamental Christianity, little confidence in the churches, little interest in gospel preaching, and little time for church attendance. - John R. Rice

The movies, wherever it is permitted, run on Sundays and keep people, if they can, away from the house of God, away from Bible teaching, away from prayer. Movies destroy character. In the Christian they cause peace and joy to flee away. They grieve the Holy Spirit of God who dwells in each child of God. Movies cause Christians to lose influence. They steal the joy of the saints, they detract from soul-winning zeal and damn the influence of the Christian worker. - John R. Rice

Movies harden the hearts of sinners, encourage sin, make wickedness alluring, and teach that the warnings of the Bible are to be ignored, that sin is to be enjoyed. Doubtless in thousands, perhaps millions, of cases sinners become enamored of sin with the aid of the movies, and turn away from Christ, never to repent, never to be saved, but to spend eternity in Hell. - John R. Rice

The virgin birth fits the nature and the life of Jesus Christ, and it is easy for anybody to believe who accepts Jesus as what He claimed to be, the Son of God who came into the world to save sinners. - John R. Rice
