MISERABLE COMFORTERS

JOB 11:1-13:17

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. ZOPHAR’S CAUSTIC REMARKS [11:1-20]

I was reminded of a powerful truth while studying this section of Scripture. Several commentaries suggested that Zophar was the youngest of Job’s 3 friends while one insisted he must have been the eldest. The simple truth is that the Bible, the only 100% reliable guide, is silent on the matter. And while commentaries are good and helpful and even scriptural- remember, that this Book, the Bible, is God’s Holy, Inspired, Infallible Word and is miles above all others.

1. Calls Job a Liar [v. 1-4]

2. Calls Job a Donkey [v. 5-12]

3. Calls Job Wicked [v. 13-20]

II. JOB’S CHARGED RESPONSE [12:1-12]

1. Common Knowledge [v. 1-3]

2. Common Observance [v. 4-8]

3. Common Truth [v. 9-12]

III. JOB’S CHRISTOLOGICAL RETREAT [12:13-13:17]

1. God is in Control [12:13-13:12]

2. God is Trustworthy [13:13-15]

“Job could not understand what God was doing, and it was important that he not understand. Had Job known that God was using him as a weapon to defeat Satan, he could have simply sat back and waited trustfully for the battle to end.” - Wiersbe

We, like Job, don’t need to know why God is doing or allowing certain things in our lives, it is enough to know that God is trustworthy.

3. God is my Saviour [13:16-17]
