Yet Not I
"But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me." (1 Corinthians 15:10)
 
The apostle Paul was, by any measure, one of the most dedicated and fruitful Christians who ever lived. If any man had a right to be proud of his writings, or his works, or his life in general, it was Paul. No doubt he, like others, had to wrestle with the sin of pride, reminding himself again and again that all he had done he owed simply to the grace and guidance and provision of God.
 
He could well have boasted, as noted in our text, that he had labored more abundantly than any of the other apostles, but then he brought himself up short with the remonstrance: "Yet not I!" All of his work and success therein he owed completely to the grace of God.
 
This phrase occurs just two other times. The first is when Paul is giving out his advice and wisdom concerning that most basic of all human institutions, marriage. "And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband" (1 Corinthians 7:10). As wise (and even divinely inspired) as his words may have been, he must remind his readers that, after all, this was Christ's command, not his!
 
The last occurrence is in Paul's great testimony concerning his new and changed life in Christ. "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me" (Galatians 2:20). The transformed, holy, powerful life he was living was not his own accomplishment, but due solely to the indwelling Christ. And surely, if Paul must so remind himself and his listeners, then we should never boast of our own life or works or words. Not I, but Christ—that is to be our testimony! HMM

Thank you for reading my Prophetic Daily Devotionals! 

 
 
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
 
For further study - Judges 21:1-25
 
Though this verse describes the days of the Judges, it sounds like a description of the Jews in the state of Israel today. In fact, the phrase "every man did that which was right in his own eyes" is used twice in the book of Judges, Judges 17:6 & 21:25.
 
There is another similar phrase used several times in Judges, "Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord." Both of these statements come from the fact that Israel had no king then and has no king - no Messiah - no Saviour today.
 
Therefore, God raised up judges - men like Gideon and Samson - to deliver the Israelites. A complete study of the book of Judges will be a blessing to the student as it will help the reader to understand not only the Jewish people of today, but the life that many are living today.
 
Many people believe that because Israel is in what is referred to as the "land of the Bible" or the "holy land" that the modern-day state of Israel is as it was in the times of the Bible. They think that the land is filled with a people, the Jewish people, who are the "people of God".
 
Remember, God brought the Jewish people, His "chosen people" into the world as the people that would be the example God wants as an "object lesson" to all of humankind. This was the case during the times of the Bible, as recorded in the Holy Bible.
 
Today, the Jewish people are coming back into the land and the world has taken notice, yet these Jews are not at this time the "people of God' that He wants them to be.
 
However, there is a day coming when the Jewish people will have a King and his name is Jesus Christ. But until then, the Jewish people will continue to do that which is right in his own eyes.
 
In fact, the reality that the Jews are living as they did, doing that which they think is right in their own eyes is evidence that the King of the Jews, Jesus Christ, is about to come back to set everything in order.
 
Please remember that before Jesus comes as the "King" He will call for us, we Christians, to join Him in the "air", the heavens, at the Rapture of the Church. This is an event that could happen at any moment, maybe even today. Keep looking up.
 
PRAYER THOT: Help me Lord, not to do that which what I think should be done, but that which is "right in Your sight". We must not do that which is right only in our own eyes - but that which is right in the eyes of our Lord and Savior.

II. WHERE IS GOD?

 

1.  God is Seated on His Throne [v. 14]

Psalm 45:6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

Psalm 47:8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.

2. God is Seeking  His Own [2 Chronicles 16:9]

Q: Did the Ark have a sail?

A: Since the Bible does not give us detailed blueprints for the structure, we are left to speculate on how it may have looked. Our Ark design is based on the biblical data and extensive research into ancient shipbuilding. The "sail" on our Ark is a rigid wooden structure rather than a traditional sail that can be moved for propulsion purposes. Rather than calling it a "sail," it would be more accurate to call it a stem post projection or a bow fin. This design is reminiscent of many ancient ships.

I. THE BLESSED MAN

Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

 

II. THE UNGODLY MAN

 

1.  Not Stable [v. 4, James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.]

2 Peter 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

I. THE BUILDING OF THE FIRST TEMPLE [v. 1]

1. The Specs [v. 2-6]

2. The Manner [v. 7, Ps. 118:22, Lk. 20:9-19, 1 Peter 2:7-8]

The Jews had a legend based on a statement of the psalmist. According to that legend, when the Temple of Solomon was being built, the masons sent up from the quarry below a stone different in size and shape from all the rest they had sent up. Looking at it, the builders said: 'There is no place for this stone. There must be some mistake.' So they rolled it down the edge of the cliff into the valley of Kidron below the Temple area. As time went on (for the Temple was seven years in building), they were ready for the chief cornerstone. When they asked for it they were told, 'We sent it up to you long ago.' One of the workmen said: 'I recall it now. There was a stone altogether different from the rest, and we thought there was no place for it and rolled it down to the valley below.' Men were sent down to the valley to find the stone. They succeeded in doing so; and when the stone was brought up it fitted perfectly into its place - the headstone of the corner.

Q: Are cloned human embryos less than human?

A: Human embryos created through cloning are just as human as those produced by the union of sperm and egg through natural reproduction or in vitro fertilization (IVF). God created human beings in His own image (Genesis 1:27). Every person starts life as a human embryo. And human beings, even IVF surplus and clones created to die, are human lives precious in the sight of God (Psalm 139:13–15; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 1:5). Creating them to to be killed is wrong.

"Shenanigans" or "Scientifically Sound Answers with Eternal Significance"?: Recently a firestorm erupted over a Christian school's fourth grade science quiz, which tested students' knowledge about the age of the earth and the presence of dinosaurs. One critic characterized the school's Bible-based teachings as "shenanigans" and another as "rubbish." But these epithets might well be applied to evolutionary claims and to the strategy of preventing children from learning how to critically evaluate them.
