ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES

ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES

1 CORINTHIANS 15:1-8

Pastor Rick Jackson

There are a lot of foolish people in the world, slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Anyone who denies the Bible is the Word of God, that Christ is the God of the Word is either woefully ignorant or willfully arrogant. One of the most powerful examples of the veracity of the Scriptures is the vicarious death of the Lord Jesus Christ and His subsequent victorious resurrection. Note with me that, concerning the death of Christ;

I. WHAT WAS NOT DONE WAS NOT DONE ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURE [1 Cor. 15:3-4]

1. Christ did Not Die anywhere but the Cross of Calvary

[Dt. 21:22-23, Gal. 3:13, Mt. 26:38, Ph. 2:8, Heb. 5:7]

- And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree: His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

- Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

- And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross

- Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

- Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

2. Christ Died but His Disciples Escaped [Zechariah 13:7, Matthew 26:31]

- Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

- Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

3. Christ’s Bones were Not Broken [Num. 9:12, Ps. 34:20, John 19:31-36]

- They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.

- He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

- The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

II. WHAT WAS DONE WAS DONE ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURE [1 Cor. 15:3-4]

Understand that many more Scriptures were fulfilled on that day alone but we are only pointing out a few.

1. According to Matthew 27:9-10, 35

-Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

- And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

2. According to Mk. 15:27-28

- And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left. And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

3. According to John 19:23-24, 28, 36-37

- Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

- After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

- For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

III. WHAT WAS “WITHOUT” WAS “WITHOUT” ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURE [1 Cor. 15:3-4]

 1. They Hated Christ “Without” A Cause [Ps. 69:4, John 15:23-25]

- They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.

- He that hateth me hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

2. Christ is the Lamb Without Blemish [Ex. 12:5, 1 Peter 1:18-19]

- Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

- Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

3. Without Christ’s Blood there is No Remission of Sin [Lev. 17:11, Heb. 9:11-22]

- For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
