John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

God Himself moved the men when they wrote the Scriptures. Inspiration. What do you mean then? Not just supervision, not just some correction of mistakes, but the words come from God. The Scriptures were breathed out from God. The men who wrote held the pen, but God held the man who held the pen. Literally, then, this is the Word of God and not the word of men. The words are the words of God, not simply the words of men. - John R. Rice [Sweet Family Ties in Heaven and Hell, pg. 30]

Too long I depended on holding on to God; now I am depending on God's holding on to me. Too long I depended on my holding out faithful. I have long since found out that God is the only One who is faithful. Sometimes you talk about holding out faithful. You never started faithful; how can you hold out faithful? No one here can say that he has ever been faithful to God. Your hope of Heaven is that God will be faithful to you. I am glad we have a settled salvation, a one-Man, one-Offering, and one-time, "once for all" salvation. - John R. Rice [The Scarlet Sin, pg. 136]

Do you want to grow? All right, that is very plain. "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby" (I Pet. 2:2). You can grow by the Word of God. - John R. Rice [Victory in 1975, pg. 12]

You cannot love the Bible nor meditate in it and follow it and still have your friendships and have your companionships and your philosophy of life molded by the lost crowd, the Devil's crowd. - John R. Rice [Sure Success in 1977, pg. 4]

Let us make it plain that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. No man can come to the Father but by Jesus Christ. He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). In Him is all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Col. 2:9). Christ is the express image of the divine Person (Heb. 1:3). God the Father has given all authority in Heaven and earth into the hands of His dear Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ who died for sinners (Matt. 28:18). It is He who will be the Judge of sinners who reject Him, as surely as He is the Saviour of sinners who accept Him. To love Christ is to love the Father. For Jesus said, "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30). - John R. Rice

Over four hundred years ago God had said to Abraham, "For the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full" (Gen. 15:16). Even then the idolatry, the lewdness, the devil-worship, the murderous lives of these people had grieved God years ago. But God gave them another chance. Abraham was not then allowed to take over the land. The cup of iniquity was not yet filled.
But the years have gone by. Sin has done its terrible work. Now God has commanded that the inhabitants of the land be driven out, be killed, and the land, which hundreds of years before was dedicated to a chosen people and for the religion of the true God and for the writing of the Bible and for the coming of the Saviour, must now become the possession of God's people. - John R. Rice

The Bible is more accurate than any scientific book in the world. In fact, it is the only absolutely reliable Book ever written, because it is the very Word of God. It is correct in history, accurate in science. It is morally perfect. It fits the twentieth century [published in 1963] as well as the first century. It fits Gentiles as well as Jews, white as well as black, old as well as young, learned as well as the ignorant. Other books pass out of date, but the Bible is never out of date. The Bible fits all men of all ages. It is the only perfect Book ever written. - John R. Rice [A Coffer of Jewels about the Bible, pg. 9-10]
