The old nature leads a Christian into sin, but the new nature never lets a Christian be happy in sin. - John R. Rice [When A Christian Sins, pg. 21]
You see, when he [the prodigal son] bit down into the apple, he found a worm. That is what you always find when you bite into the Devil's apples! Sometimes when you bite into the Devil's apples, you will find half a worm! Some of it you will have already swallowed! That is not a joke when you apply it to sin, as I am applying it now. Lots of times when you bite in and do not find a worm, you have already swallowed it. The sin is committed and you can't get done with it as easily as you think. You will find out the Devil is a liar when it is too late to retract some things, when it is too late to live over some things. - John R. Rice [from the message "All Satan's Apples Have Worms"]
If preaching is worth doing, it is worth preparation for it. No one would set out to be a lawyer or a doctor with expecting to do a lot of study and work. Well, preaching is more important, and it deserves the best that any man has. There is no way to be greatly used of God without spending the time and the study and the prayer and doing whatever is necessary to learn to do it right. - John R. Rice
They continued in prayer and in supplication. Prayer is asking; supplication is begging. - John R. Rice
Here is another Scripture on this Bible doctrine that all Satan's apples have worms.
"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass." - Ps. 37:7-10
"David, don't fret because of that old sinner. Don't complain because that man is getting along better than you are."
David had said, "Lord, here is a sinner who is making good money and having a good time. I am living
for You and am having it tough. This man who is living for the Devil seems to prosper."
God said, "David, don't worry about that. He has pretty apples, but all of them have worms." - John R. Rice [all Satan's apples have worms]
Let us forever do away with any thought that we can earn salvation. It is "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost" (Titus 3:5). And Ephesians 2:8, 9 say: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Not of works! Nobody ever deserves salvation, and no one ever will. I
deserved Hell before I was saved, and I deserve Hell now. But bless God, through His infinite mercy I am saved and on my way to Heaven. Salvation is wholly by God's rich grace. Jesus died for sinners. - John R. Rice [Revival Appeals, pg. 110]
So if some poor sinner reads this who is unsaved, I warn you now, do not start out to bribe God. Do not set out to earn your way to Heaven. Such people do not get to Heaven. His salvation is only for those who admit themselves poor undone sinners and LEAVE THE SAVING TO JESUS! You cannot buy salvation with good deeds. But praise the Lord, you can accept it as a free gift of God. - John R. Rice [Revival Appeals, pg. 110]
