WE WOULD SEE JESUS

JOHN 12:20-22

They knew they needed more than religion. They knew Jesus was the One to see. They weren’t sure how to go about seeing Jesus, but they were honest seekers.

 

I. WE DON’T NEED TO SEE JESUS BY SIGHT [Luke 9:9, 23:8-11]

 

1. Herod saw Him but did not Understand Who Jesus Is

 

2. Herod saw Him but did not Understand What Jesus Could Do

 

3. Herod saw Him but did not Understand What Jesus Would Do

 

II. WE MUST SEE JESUS BY FAITH [Luke 19:1-10]

 

1. Zacchaeus Came to Understand Who Jesus Is [Heb. 2:9]

 

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

 

2. Zacchaeus Came to Understand What Jesus Could Do for Him [Heb. 12:14]

 

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

 

3. Zacchaeus Came to Understand What Jesus Would Do for Him [1 Pet. 1:3-9]

 

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

 

III. IN THE FUTURE EVERYONE WILL SEE JESUS

 

CHRISTIANS [1 Jn. 3:2] Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

[Rev. 22:3-4] the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

NON-CHRISTIANS [Rev. 1:7] Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

[Mt. 24:30] And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

 

1. All People Need to Understand Who Jesus Is [Creator, Saviour, Judge]

 

2. All People Need to Understand What Jesus Will Be Doing [Judging]

 

3. All People Need to Understand What Jesus Will Do Now [John 1:12, 1 Jn. 1:9]

 

FOR THE LOST - But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

FOR THE SAVED - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
