I. THE GOOD [v. 1-10]
1. The Centurion’s Good Reputation [v. 1-5]
2. The Centurion’s Good Testimony [v. 6-7a]
3. The Centurion’s Good Saviour [v. 7b-10]
II. THE BAD [v. 11-17]
1. The Villainy of Death [v. 11-12a, 1 Cor. 15: 19-26]
If in this life only
we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ
risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since
by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in
Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his
own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his
coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to
God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority
and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The
last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
2. The Vileness of Death [v. 12b] death does not
discriminate
3. The Victor over Death [v. 13-17] only One Being can turn
death to victory
Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord
GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall
he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
1 Corinthians 15:54-55 So when this corruptible shall have
put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall
be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in
victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the
world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
III. THE UNREALISTIC [v. 18-35]

2. Expecting God’s Men to Conform to Worldly Expectations
[v. 24-30]
3. Expecting God’s Approval on Man’s Childishness [v. 31-35]
