JESUS, THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS

HEB. 1:9               gladness=agalliasis,  ag-al-lee'-as-is;  exultation; specially, welcome:--gladness, (exceeding) joy.

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE GREAT WORKS OF JESUS [v. 1-3]

1. The Expression of God [v. 1-3a]

2. The Creation of the Universe [v. 2-3, 10]

3. The Redemption of Sinners [v. 3]

II. THE GREAT WORSHIP OF JESUS [v. 3-6]

1. The Expression of Excellence [v. 3-4]

2. The Relationship and the Resurrection [v. 5, 5:5, Ps. 2:7, Acts 13:30-37]

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

[the great theologian Paul said] But God raised him from the dead: And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise , I will give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

3. The Incarnation and the Divine Edict [v. 6, Luke 2: 13-14]

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

III. THE GREAT WORTHINESS OF JESUS [v. 6-

1. The Declaration of Deity by Deity [v. 6-8]

2. The Characterization of Character by God [v. 8-9]

3. The Anointing of Joy by a Father Well Pleased [v. 9]

The Bible declares that the Saviour, our Lord, is “a Man of War” [Ex. 15:3]. The Scriptures express that the Saviour is

“a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” [Is. 53:3]. But my friends, the Scriptures also declare the Saviour has been anointed “with the oil of gladness” above all men [Heb. 1:9]! Think about it!

JOY AT HIS BIRTH - Luke 1:14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

JOY AT HIS INCEPTION/INCARNATION - Luke 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

JOY AT HIS RESURRECTION - Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

JOY AT HIS CHARACTER - Hebrews 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

JOY AT HIS ABILITY TO SAVE TO THE UTTERMOST - Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

Yes, JESUS is THE JOY OF CREATION, JESUS is THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS, JESUS is THE JOY OF EASTER, JESUS is THE JOY OF the SECOND COMING, JESUS is THE JOY OF HEAVEN! Do you have Joy?
