CAROLS OF THE KING - WHAT CHILD IS THIS?

MT. 1:1-2

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. JESUS CHRIST [Mt. 1:1]

1. Jesus - Jehovah Saves- Immanuel [v. 1, 21, Is. 7:14]

2. Jesus- the Lord of Battle named "after" Joshua the great General [Psalm 24:8]

Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

3. Jesus- High Priest and King named after Joshua the Crowned Priest [Zech. 3:1, 8-10; 6:11-13]

-And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

-Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.

-Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest; And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

4. Christ, Messiah, Anointed [Ps. 2, Luke 4:14-21, Isaiah 61:1]

The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted , to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

II. THE SON OF DAVID

1. The King of Kings from Israel’s Great King [1 Timothy 6:14-16; Revelation 17:14, 19:16]

That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

2. The Good, Great, Chief Shepherd from the Famous Shepherd

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

Hebrews 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

1 Peter 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

1 Peter 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

3. The Subject of Songs from the Sweet Psalmist of Israel [2 Sam. 23:1, Ps. 22]

Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

III. THE SON OF ABRAHAM

1. Abraham’s Scriptural Saviour [Gal. 3:1-13]

Jn. 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

2. Abraham’s Physical Seed [Gal. 3:14-19]

3. Abraham’s Spiritual Seed [Gal. 3:20-29]
