KNOWING & DOING

1 PETER 1:1-9

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. WHAT DID GOD KNOW [v. 1-2]

1. God Knew Christians Would Need Encouragement [v.1]

2. God Knew Who would Yield to the Holy Spirit and Trust Christ [v. 2, 1 Th. 1:4-9]
Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
Acts 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

3. God Knew Christians would Need Living Grace & Peace [v. 2b]

II. WHAT HAS GOD DONE [v. 3-5]

1. Given us the Power to be Children of God [v. 3a]

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

2. Taken Us From Death unto Life [v. 3b]

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

3. Changed Our Destiny From Indignation to Inheritance [v. 4-5]

Hebrews 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Revelation 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

III. WHAT SHOULD WE BE DOING [v. 6-9]

1. Rejoice that Sadness is Temporary [v. 6]

2. Rejoice that Trials are Purposeful [v. 7]

3. Rejoice that Our Saviour is Coming for Us! [v. 7b-9]
