"For unto us a child is born." Born. He knows all that you and I ever need to know- child, youth, poverty, labor, temptation and persecution, too. "Unto us a child is born." And so then Jesus grew up and He was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin. He is the Son of Man, the Model Man, the Second Adam. "For unto us a child is born." - John R. Rice
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son." Jesus is the only begotten Son. Jesus is the only Son that God begot in the flesh. Others of us are born spiritually to be children of God, but Jesus was begotten physically in the womb of the Virgin Mary, begotten of God. So Jesus is the Son God gave. [Isaiah 9:6] - John R. Rice
Now notice this. "Unto us a son is given" means that Jesus is born of a virgin. He was the only begotten Son of God, so He was begotten by a miracle, not by a human father. Does it matter about the virgin birth? Well, if the Bible is true, the virgin birth is true. If Jesus is God, then the virgin birth is true. If you think it does not matter, then either you have been under bad teaching or you are not a Christian. Jesus IS born of a virgin. - John R. Rice
Someone said, "Brother Rice, don't you think when we pray we should ask the Holy Spirit to help us to pray, but we should pray through the name of Jesus and come to the Father?" I have said many times that if you want to pray to Jesus, that is all right, for He is God. And if you want to pray to the Holy Spirit, that is all right, because there is no jealousy in the Godhead. What one does, They all do. And what one wants, They all want. What one hears when you pray, They all hear, Jesus is the mighty God. - John R. Rice
In Hebrews, quoting from one of the Psalms, the Lord says, "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever" (1:8). Yes, Jesus is God. One man wrote from Canada, "Brother Rice, Jesus is the Son of God. He is not God." Yes, He is God in exactly the same way that the Father is God- faultless, sinless, all-powerful, all-knowing, all-creating, all-sustaining. "And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God." He is the Son and yet the Father. The truth is so sweet that one can probe into it and never get all the depths of it. But Jesus is God. He is one with the Father. - John R. Rice
You say, "But, Brother Rice, there is some controversy about the virgin birth." Not among Bible believers. There are among infidels, those who do not want a Bible judgment, who do not want a Saviour, who do not want the law of God and righteousness, who do not want to have to come to face the Lord Jesus. If they do not believe in the virgin birth they are ungodly and wicked men, even if they are in the church. And if they claim to be scholars and do not believe in the virgin birth, they lie about it. They are not scholars but are following their wicked unbelief instead of scholarship. The Bible is clear that Jesus was born of a virgin. - John R. Rice
Everything about Christ must be miraculous. He is God come in the flesh. He is foretold in the Old Testament. He is the only begotten Son of God- that is, physically begotten of God, the Bible says. This is one of the essentials of the Christian faith. - John R. Rice
