Poem of the Week

The State of Fall

by Rick Jackson [written at a time a hurricane was NOT bearing down on the state]

With the temp still in the nineties,

A leaf or two has fallen.

The lawn needs weekly mowing,

The air is full of pollen.

The leaves they're not a-changin',

They're as green as they can be.

The birds are still out chirping,

The squirrels still care-free.

Don't they realize?

Do they not know at all

The calendar is October,

The season is really Fall?

It's just one of those things,

That I sometimes hate...

Some things rarely change,

In Florida, the Sunshine State.
