Esther 6:4 "And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him."
When my daughter was ten years old, she asked me, "Daddy, why does the Bible say life is so short, when it seems so long?" Ah, the perspective of a ten-year-old! Life seems so long when you are ten, but it seems short when you are eighty. As humans, our perspective on time can vary widely; just imagine how much our perspective varies to God's! II Peter 3:8 says, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."
We are consumed with time-long, short, too much, not enough, etc.-but God is the Master of timing. Timing is important, and you can see that over and again in the book of Esther. At the very same time Haman came to the king for permission to hang Mordecai, the king was looking for someone to ask advice on what to do to honor Mordecai! Because God is in control, He is in control of timing.
Don't get so caught up in time today that you forget about timing. This is not an excuse to be late or lazy, but don't chase away your day. God is not hurried by time, and He is not worried. Yet how many times are we hurried and worried about time? God is the Master of timing. Whether you wish something would last longer, or you wish something would end already, remember that God is in control and is concerned about timing. If you can trust God with your life, you can trust Him with the timing of life!
