I. HE WAS ENAMORED WITH THE WORLD [v.1]

His brush with the world in Egypt may have had something to do with it. If so, it's another bad result of the lack of faith that led Abram to Egypt.

James 1:13-14 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

1. He started when he "pitched his tent toward Sodom" [Gn. 13:12]

2. He continued when he "dwelt in Sodom" [Gn. 14:12]

3. He finally "sat in the gate of Sodom" [Gn. 19:1]

II. HE BECAME INVOLVED WITH THE WORLD [v. 2-11]

1. He knew the dangers of the world [v. 2-3]

2. He never drew a line with the world [v. 4-7]

3. He negatively developed worldly thinking [v. 8-11]

III. HE BECAME ENTANGLED WITH THE WORLD [v. 12-38]

Matthew 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

1. It destroyed his extended family [v. 12-14]

2. It destroyed his spiritual discernment [v. 15-23]

3. It destroyed his wife [v. 24-29]

4. It destroyed his family legacy [v. 30-38]

Luke 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
