Are You Hard-Headed?

 

Ezekiel 3:9  "As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house."   We are living in a day where broad-mindedness is considered to be a great virtue.  Ironically, being broad-minded today means being close-minded to the truth.  Often "broad-minded" is defined by those who are very close-minded to God and the truth!  Is it possible to be open-minded and hard-headed at the same time?  Yes!  Actually, it is imperative that you are! The only way to be open-minded to the truth is to be hard-headed against anything that strays from the truth as defined by God.  Ezekiel had to be hard-headed with God's difficult message to a bunch of hard-hearted people.  He was to be hard-headed in his pursuit of the truth, and open-hearted to what God had to say.  One side demands the other.  You can only be open-minded to God's truth when you are hard-headed about God's truth. When you have an open mind toward God, and a heart for the people He loves, it is reasonable to be a little hard-headed for God, too.  Don't let having a broad mind equal having an empty head and heart.  To lock God's truth in, all falsehood must be locked out.  It really is true that "if you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything." The only truly open mind is a mind open to the truth.  The only way to be open-minded to the truth is to define it by absolute authority and be hard-headed against anything that strays from God's standard. I. IT IS A TITANIC MISTAKE FOR AN UNSAVED PERSON TO NEGLECT SALVATION [Hebrews 2:3]

A: Genesis 1 tells us God created plants on the third day and then man was formed later on Day Six. But in chapter 2 we read that "before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown . . . the Lord God formed man" (Genesis 2:5,7). At first this may seem impossible to remedy, but a closer look at the text reveals there is no contradiction. The two specific types of plants mentioned in verse 5 are translated from specific Hebrew terms: "plant of the field" (siah hassadeh) and "herb of the field" (eseb hassadeh). These terms have been defined as "wild shrubs of the steppe" and "cultivated grain" respectively. In Genesis 2:5–6 the writer set up the narrative and informed the reader of what was to come. These verses provide a description of the world on Day Six before God created Adam. The grasses, fruit trees, and seed-yielding herbs were created on Day Three (with the exception of those within the garden), but the thorny plants and cultivated grains came about after Adam was created. A lesson to learn

When I was with Jerry Falwell at Liberty University, the atheletic department (AD) had the number one tennis player in the world coming to speak to the athletes. He was going to have lunch with him and already had about 15 students lined up to eat with them. The AD then asked me to eat with them. I replied, "If you are serious about getting him saved you need to get one person to eat with him alone to lead him to Christ."

 

The AD then said, "You eat with him."

 

Yes, the students were very disappointed but his salvation was far more important. It was fabulous, we hit it off and I had the wonderful joy of giving him the gospel and he received the Lord Jesus and got a big dose of salvation. We became good friends. I was in California and went to his home and his club house where he was the tennis pro and where he tried to give me all kinds of athletic equipment from their big store.

 

At that time I had a deep burden for Bob Hope, whom he knew personally and wanted to get me to move out there and he would get me with him and so many more stars he knew personally but God kept sending "no's." I have said all of this to tell you, don't run from big names. Many of them are hungry and open to the gospel. You must stay relaxed and rely on the Holy Spirit to do the convicting and converting.

At 6:00 pm this evening, my mind in on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. If He spent 3 days and 3 nights in the grave as He claimed He would (Matthew 12:40 .. and Jesus Himself said, "are there not 12 hours in the day?" John 11:9, with another 12 at night), then as the Jewish 1st day of the week begins with their 12 hours of night, Jesus came out of that borrowed tomb!! Scripture tells us Jesus died on Nisan 13 at 3:00 pm when He dismissed His spirit. He was taken from the cross and prepared for and placed in the grave by 6:00 pm, the beginning of the Sabbath Passover on Nisan 14. The next day is also a Sabbath according to Leviticus 23, the Sabbath of Unleavened Bread. The year Jesus died was an unusual year as it is followed by a 3rd Sabbath, the weekly Sabbath on Saturday. Jesus came out of that tomb as the three Sabbaths ended (72 hours, as He promised, the only sign He gave Israel)!

As the women approached the tomb on the first hour of daylight on Sunday to prepare Jesus body, the tomb is already empty and the soldiers have long gone. While the KJV translators followed the Catholic tradition of a Friday crucifixion (Scripturally impossible), the Greek uses a plural noun for "Sabbath" in Matthew 28:1, "after the Sabbaths were past."
