THE LORD LOOKETH ON THE HEART

LUKE 5:18-26

1 Samuel 16:7 Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

 

I. THE CHARACTERS

1. Four Men Wanted their Friend Healed [v. 17-20, Mk. 2:3]

2. The Friend actually Wanted Salvation [v. 20-25]

3. The Crowd Witnessed God at Work [v. 26]

 

II. THE CRITICS

1. Critics are Like Broken Cisterns [v. 17, Jer. 2:13]

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

2. Critics are Like Broken Records [v. 21a]

“Critics are a dime a dozen. Any fool can criticize.” -Lee Roberson

3. Critics are Like a Broken Clock [v. 22b]

Even a broken clock is right twice a day

 

III. THE CHRIST

1. Christ Knows the Thoughts of Men [v. 22]

He knew the critics’ thoughts, the friends’ thoughts, the infirm man’s thoughts.

2. Christ Knows the Limitations of Men [v. 23]

3. Christ Knows What We Need to Know [v. 24-26]
