WORSHIP IN THE SPIRIT

Pastor Rick Jackson

The New Testament has a lot to say about what we do "in the flesh" or "in the Spirit". When we give in to our carnal desires, our old nature, we are in the flesh. When we listen to the indwelling Holy Spirit, follow the Word of God, honor the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father- we are "in the Spirit." Now the reason I mentioned 4 things about being in the Spirit is it's possible to do right wrongly and thus not really be "in the Spirit".

A lost person can tithe, witness, sing, preach or what have you but it's NOT "in the Spirit." Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

A Christian can do likewise and not be "in the Spirit." Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

There are many things we should do "in the Spirit". The one I want us to study tonight is the fact that we should: WORSHIP IN THE SPIRIT -

Ironside said, "Real worship is that of the heart, when the Spirit of God takes of the things of Christ and show them unto us. As we are occupied with Him, true praise and adoration ascend to the Father."

I. The right authority [John 4:19-26]

People say, "How do you know you're right and everyone else is wrong?" We don't, we know He's right and everyone else is wrong. Romans 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

II. The right access [Phil. 3:1-16]

Worship is not about what makes us feel good or what we like. True worship is about being and doing what He says is right.

III. The right attitude [Revelation 1:9-18]

Worship is not about lifting us up, it's about recognizing Who He is and what we are!
