Of course there are many great themes in these books. The return of Christ, the defeat of Satan, the old and new natures, the blessed Trinity and so many, so many more. But in the time we have this morning I’d like us to center on three!

I JOHN PRESENTS THE GREAT THEME OF CHRIST’S SALVATION

1. Helpless sinners only Christ can save 1:5-10

2. Huge sin debt only Christ could pay 2:2, 4:9-10

3. Have security only Christ can say 3:23-24, 4:13-15, 5:1a, 4-5, 9-13

II JOHN PRESENTS THE GREAT THEME OF CHRIST’S DEITY

1. Christ became fully man 7

2. Christ is fully God 9, Jn 1:1-3, 14

3. Christ’s deity isn’t optional 9-11

III JOHN PRESENTS THE GREAT THEME OF CHRIST’S TRUTH

1. Truth brings joy 2-4

2. Truth should be supported 5-8

3. Truth brings good report 12
