YOU CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH! (III JOHN)

Rick Jackson

There is a famous courtroom scene from a movie where the 2 lead actors are arguing. The man on the stand asks the lawyer, “You want answers?” And the reply comes back, “I think I'm entitled to them.” “You want answers?” “I want the truth!” “You can't handle the truth!” Apart from Christ, you can’t handle the truth. Look at the evolutionists. Look at the politically correct groups. Look at religious groups that don’t follow the Word of God. But those saved by Christ and walking in the light of His Word know this, YOU CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Firstly, we should:

I. WALK IN TRUTH (1-4)

2 Corinthians 4:2
But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Galatians 2:14
But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

1 John 1:6
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

2 John 1:4
I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

Walking in truth:

1. Makes a bond with others (v. 1)

2. Is seen of others (v. 2-3)

3. Brings joy to others (v. 3-4)

Not only should we walk in truth, but we should:

II. WORK FOR TRUTH (5-10)

1. Help people follow God’s way (v. 5-6)

2. Help people spread the Gospel (v. 7-8)

3. Help people with graciousness (v. 9-10)

Then finally, we can handle the truth not only by walking in truth and working for truth but we can:

III. WITNESS FOR THE TRUTH (11-14)

1. With our work (v. 11)

2. With our words (v. 12)

3. With our willingness (v. 13-14)
