For further study - Hebrews 10:1-25 The Apostle Paul, it has been said, wrote the book of Hebrews to help Hebrews quit being Hebrews. In other words, he was telling the new converts to Christianity, from Judaism, that there was a better way than the "law". Basically that's how Paul starts this tenth chapter. Stating in verses 1-3 that the "law" was a "shadow" of the good things to come. Paul reminds these new converts that the blood of "bulls and goats" cannot take away sins. You can read his argument in verses 4-9. Then in verse 10 he states that Jesus Christ was the "offering, once and for all". What a blessing verse 12 is to me, and each of us who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. After He became the "sacrifice for sins forever" the Lord went into the third heaven and He "sat down on the right-hand of God". Now our Saviour, the Son of God, is at the right hand of the Father, there to intercede as our special "advocate" with the Father, I John 2:1. Jesus is there to represent us at the right hand of the Father. He is there to restore our fellowship with the Father should we sin, which we know we will after salvation. By the way, notice Jesus is not now on "His throne" but instead seated at the "right hand of the Father". The Father will, in the future, give His Son, Jesus His "Kingdom", His "throne" and His "dominion". There is so much in this passage that is a blessing to each of us, Notice verses 19-22. Because of our "high priest", Jesus, we can enter the Holy of Holies in boldness, because of the blood of Jesus. We can talk to the Father because of what the Son has done for us. When Jesus died on the cross, the "veil of the Temple" was rent from top to bottom, giving us access to the Holy of Holies. We can now approach the Father with respect, honor and with boldness, verse 19. Paul exhorts each of us to come together for fellowship, prayer, study of His Word and encouragement, verse 25. We should do this even more so as we quickly approach the time of the Rapture of the Church. Believing that the Rapture could happen at any moment doesn't allow me to sit down on my "blessed assurance" and do nothing but wait for the Rapture. I, and each of us that know Christ, must do His work, even with greater intensity as that day quickly approaches when He will call us to be with Him in the heavenlies. May 2016 Death by Sin "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." (Romans 5:12) This very important verse conveys several vital truths. First of all, death came into the world only when sin came into the world. Suffering and death of conscious life, whether animal or human, were not a part of God's "finished" and "very good" creation (Genesis 1:31–2:3). There was an abundance of food and all other provisions for both people and animals. There was certainly no "struggle for existence" or "survival of the fittest," for every creature was created "fit" for its own environment. When Adam sinned, however, it became necessary for God to bring the curse of decay and death not only upon Adam but also upon all his dominion (Genesis 3:17-20; see also Romans 8:20-22; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22). Furthermore, there remains no warrant for the notion that "Adam" is simply a generic term representing the human race. He was "one man." In fact, he was "the first man" (1 Corinthians 15:45), and Eve was "the mother of all living" (Genesis 3:20). There was certainly no population of evolving hominids becoming "Adam." In fact, Christ Himself made it clear that Adam and Eve were there "from the beginning of the creation" (Mark 10:6, quoting Genesis 1:27). The entire argument here in Romans 5:12-21 becomes irrelevant if the Genesis record of the creation and Fall of Adam did not happen precisely as recorded in Genesis 1–3, and this would mean that there is no reality in the saving work of Christ, either. Such a rejection of the Christian faith is hardly warranted by the fragmentary fossils that have been alleged to support the notion of human evolution. Children will not follow the precept of a father and mother whose example does not tell the same thing. It is a pitiful thing that it should ever be necessary to say about parents, like Jesus said about the scribes and Pharisees, "Whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works; for they say and do not." (Matt. 23:3). Children will have no confidence in a hypocrite. They know whether you mean business for God. - John R. Rice

When your children see you day by day putting business before the church, putting your pleasure before God, putting money-making before soul winning, reading other literature before reading the Bible, do you suppose they believe in the sincerity of your claims as a Christian? Do you suppose they are impressed by your devotions to God? Do you suppose they see any reason for trusting Christ and loving Him and serving Him? Put Christ first in your home if you want the peace of God to dwell there. We have it plainly said in the Word of God, "I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me" (Exodus 20:5). You may expect your children to follow in your footsteps. You cannot expect them to love God and serve Him, to put Him first, unless you do the same. - John R. Rice

At our home as a boy (it is one of my happy memories!) we always expected to go to church. My father, my stepmother, the whole family (too many to ride in one carriage!) went to church. We went when it was cold and when it was hot. We went when it rained and when it was dry. It was rare indeed that any were so sick they could not go. If that were true, the rest went to church, and just one stayed home to take care of the sick. We went to church and Sunday school on time. We went to prayer meeting.

The home can not be happy when a prodigal boy or a wayward girl breaks the heart of Mother and Father. The home cannot be happy where the children grow up and forget Mother's God and Father's God. The only sure hope for happiness through the years is that each child, as he comes to the years of accountability, be won to Christ, to love Him, to trust Him, to follow Him in baptism, to get in church with God's people, to obey the Lord and grow in grace. - John R. May 3, 2016 God Is Love "And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love." (1 John 4:16) It is said that the most quoted verse in all the Bible is the passage in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Surely that is a magnificent testimony to the love God has for us, and without it none of us would know God. "We love him, because he first loved us" (1 John 4:19). But God "loved righteousness, and hated iniquity" (Hebrews 1:9). How is it that God "commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)? "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10). Human love is usually reciprocal. That is, we love if and when we are loved in return. Yet those of us who are twice-born are commanded to love each other, and the godly husband is expected to love his wife like the Lord Jesus unilaterally loved the church. But that kind of love is not normal—it is God's love in us. "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God" (1 John 4:7). The English word "love" in its various forms appears over 700 times in the Bible. The vast majority of those references do not attempt to describe God's love. They focus either on our responsibility to "love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might" (Deuteronomy 6:5) or "to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God" (Micah 6:8). Evidently, we experience God's love when we are saved and are under obligation to show it as we "work out [our] own salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12).
