John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

I can't think of anything more apt to guarantee a happy good year for you than to set out to read the Bible through and love it and meditate in it. - John R. Rice

The Scripture says in II Timothy 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.' Read the Bible every day. I would set out to read it through in a year. That means that you would carefully read four chapters a day perhaps. I would read the King James Version. I would read it consecutively, chapter after chapter, until you get through with a certain book, then start on another one in the Bible. Read it all. I have about 17 or 18 different versions of the Bible but the King James Version is the best one for ordinary use. - John R. Rice

Are you going to be a good Christian this year and set out to make yours a Christian home, with the Bible and prayer. The communists don't like the Bible. They don't have it in the schools. Well, wicked people have put it out of American schools, and a lot of you people didn't care because you don't have it in your homes, either.
But why be like a communist, or like an infidel, or like a heathen? Believe the Bible and love the Lord. Have the Bible in your home. Teach it diligently. Talk about it all the time. Teach it to your children! You are not going to be a good Christian if you don't do that. - John R. Rice

We must remember that everybody who was ever saved was saved the same way--by faith in Christ. God has always had but one way of saving sinners. Those who were saved in Old Testament times were saved by faith in the coming Saviour. Those who are saved now are saved by faith in the Saviour who has already come. - John R. Rice

The old nature leads a Christian into sin, but the new nature never lets a Christian be happy in sin. - John R. Rice

The wages of sin is death, and everybody who dies proves that men are sinners. Gray hair, failing eyesight, brittle bones, disease, are all marks of sin. The perfect angels of God do not have these afflictions. Nor will we have these marks of sin after our bodies are redeemed and we are done with sin. - John R. Rice

Jesus taught us in the Lord's Prayer to pray daily for forgiveness. He said we should daily asks, "Forgive us our sins" (Luke 11:4). That proves that all of us are sinners who need daily forgiveness. - John R. Rice
