Romans 8:7-9

I. THE TRINITY SEALS
CHRISTIANS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. Sealing Designates Ownership [Eph. 1:13-14, 1 Cor. 6:19]
2. Sealing Does Not Become Broken by Sin [Eph. 4:30]
3. Sealing Demonstrates Security [Jn. 6:27, 2 Cor. 1:21-22]
II. THE TRINITY
ANOINTS CHRISTIANS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. Jesus Was Anointed by the Father with the Spirit [Luke
4:18, Acts 10:38]
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed
me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to
set at liberty them that are bruised,
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and
with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of
the devil; for God was with him.
2. Jesus Sent Us as the Father Sent Him [John 20:21-22]
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my
Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed
on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
3. Jesus Has Anointed Us with the Holy Spirit [1 John 2:27]
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in
you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth
you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you,
ye shall abide in him.
III. THE TRINITY
ASSURES CHRISTIANS BY THE HOLY SPIRIT [Rm. 8, Gal. 4]
1. He is The Spirit of Adoption [v. 15a] “For ye have not
received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit
of adoption…”
Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fulness of the time was come,
God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them
that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons
2. He is The Spirit of Intimacy [v. 15b] “…whereby we cry,
Abba, Father.”
Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth
the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
3. He is The Spirit of Assurance [v. 16-25]
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we
are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and
joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also
glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are
not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the
earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons
of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by
reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, Because the creature itself
also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty
of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and
travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also,
which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within
ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. For we
are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why
doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with
patience wait for it.
Galatians 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a
son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
