Rev. 21:8, 27;
22:14-17
Pastor Rick Jackson
I. THE SOURCE OF LIES
1. Satan [John 8:44, 1 Timothy 4:1-2]
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your
father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the
truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of
his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times
some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and
doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared
with a hot iron;
2. Self, i.e., the Sin Nature [Psalm 58:3, Jer. 17:9]
The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as
soon as they be born, speaking lies.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately
wicked: who can know it?
3. Society, i.e., the World [1 Jn. 2:15-22]
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all
that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the
pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth
away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist
shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the
last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been
of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they
might be made manifest that they were not all of us. But ye have an unction
from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because
ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist,
that denieth the Father and the Son.
II. THE SERIOUSNESS
OF LYING
1.It is Against the Ten Commandments [Ex. 20:16]
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
2. God Hates Lying [Prov. 6:16-19]
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an
abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed
innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift
in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth
discord among brethren.
3. The Penalty for Lying is Severe [Proverbs 19:5,9]
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that
speaketh lies shall not escape.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that
speaketh lies shall perish.
III. THE SOLUTION TO
LYING
1. Confess the Saviour [Rm. 10:9-13]
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with
the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever
believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the
Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon
him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
2. Confess the Sin [1 Jn. 1:8-10]
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have
not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
3. Call It What It Is [Proverbs 26:19, 28:13, Ephesians
4:25]
So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am
not I in sport?
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso
confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his
neighbour: for we are members one of another.
