Bible Christians are not to go by an emotional experience or feeling but by the plain Word of God. Our emotions are to go along with the Bible and we are not to twist the Bible to go along with our emotional experiences. - John R. Rice
In 2 Peter 1:20 and 21 the Scripture says, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."
In other words, God has a divinely given meaning in the Scriptures and as the Scofield center reference note says, no Scripture is of "its own interpretation; i.e., not isolated from all that the Word has given elsewhere." So no one has a right to take a Scripture out of its context and make it mean something besides the honest and face-value meaning of the Scripture itself gives. - John R. Rice
Do you follow Arminius? Or Wesley? Then you are certain to be wrong wherever those good but frail men were wrong. Do you follow Calvin? Then whatever doctrine Calvin formulated or invented will be wrong for you as for him.
Charles Spurgeon, great and blessed London preacher, was a Calvinist though he spoke against "hyper-Calvinism," and called it that; and his hyper-Calvinist friends criticized him for preaching that "whosoever will" may come. - John R. Rice
God chose Jacob to head a nation for Him, and rejected Esau. That was predestined before they were born (Rom. 9:11-13). But Esau, while rejected as head of a tribe through which God would bring the Saviour was not predestined to go to Hell, and for all we know may have been saved.
Pharaoh was a wicked murderous man, and in the matter of letting Israel go from Egypt, God had raised him up to make an example of him and kill him (Rom. 9:17, 18). But there is no evidence that God predestined him to go to Hell. He could have chosen to be saved. Knowing ahead of time what Pharaoh would do, God planned to make an example of His destruction of a wicked king. - John R. Rice
If you sent your dollar to get a horoscope or life reading, or if you inquired of any of this tribe of crooks, you simply helped to feed a tribe of heartless deceivers who prey on the troubles and superstitions of the ignorant. - John R. Rice
The Devil himself is a liar and the father of liars, and every time he tells a half truth he tells a whole lie. - John R. Rice
We have a country that started out on God's plan, and God blessed it. Now some morons would like to throw it away. - John R. Rice
