II. THE GREAT THRONE IN HEAVEN [v. 2b-3]

2. The Identification [v. 3a]

“the three persons of the Trinity are distinguished: (1) God the Holy Spirit in verses 2 and 5; (2) God the Father here in verse 3; and (3) God the Son in verse 5 of chapter 5.” J.V. McGee

 

3. The “Reminder” [v. 3b, Habakkuk 3:2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.]

 

III. THE GREAT THEME OF HEAVEN [v. 4-11] “Glory to God”

 

1. The Twenty-Four Elders [v. 4, 10-11] Real people representing real people.  These are all the saved of all the ages. The word “church” not used again until 22:16

 

2. The Spirit of God [v. 5, Is. 11:1-2, Jn. 1:29-34]

 

3. The Seraphim [v. 6-9, Is. 6:1-4]
