In this issue . . .Q: Is lactose intolerance a result of the Fall?A: Humans are born with the genetic information to allow them to make the enzyme lactase to digest milk, which is a very good thing considering we depend upon milk in infancy. It is generally accepted that the gene encoding lactase would be ordinarily switched off as a person grows up, making them somewhat lactose intolerant. However, in many populations a variation disabling the "off-switch" for this gene is widespread, making lactose tolerance the norm for them.We have however no way of knowing when people began using dairy products. Abraham ate dairy just a few centuries after the global Flood, and archaeology confirms dairy residue in the pots of Pleistocene people. However, if lactose intolerance was once the norm, then lactase persistence—the ability to still digest milk after infancy—may have been selectively favored in populations relying heavily on dairy resources. Lactase persistence has nothing to do with molecules–to–man evolution or ape-to-human evolution or even information-adding evolution. It is just a switched-on variation within the human genome. Get EquippedThe Genetics of Adam & EveThe Bible's language is clear that Adam and Eve were real people. Their historical existence and fall into sin are foundational to the gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition, the science of genetics—including human and chimp comparisons, mitochondrial and Y chromosome DNA, and human genetic variation—confirms and is consistent with the fact that all humans have descended from an original couple specifically created by God. Biblically Based Grand Canyon Rim Tours Canyon Ministries is now providing land-based rim tours of the Grand Canyon along its South Rim. It will provide you with a Bible-based presentation of the geology of the Canyon and how it confirms the Bible's account of a global Flood and belief in a young earth. News to Know Quick Look Does a Paleo–Diet Hold the Evolutionary Key for Good Nutrition? Throughout history various cultural groups have adapted their diets to available resources, but that has nothing to do with tales of human evolution from an ape-man past. Events may selectively favor people best able to subsist on available edibles, but that is adaptability, not evolution. Highly processed foods are not good nutritional choices, but that fact has nothing to do with evolutionary history. Mercuriceratops Delivers a Message from the Past: Mercuriceratops is simply a descendant of one of the original kinds of dinosaurs God created. Which other ceratopsids it perhaps could have interbred with we can never know, but among living animals it is clear that many very different-looking animals are able to interbreed freely and are likewise just variations of the same kind of animal. Landmark Supreme Court Victory for Hobby Lobby and Religious Freedom: Mark down this day as a watershed moment in the history of freedom to live as Christians in America. The Supreme Court upheld the suit by two Christian-owned companies to secure their right to follow their consciences by not providing abortion-causing drugs to their employees.
