LAMENTATIONS
3:22, 32
Pastor Rick Jackson
Foolish people have said the God of the Old Testament is a
God of judgment but the God of the New Testament is a God of mercy. Of the 261
verses of the Bible that mention the word “mercy”- 208 of them are in the Old
Testament, only 53 are in the New Testament. The truth is the God of the Bible,
the same God in the Old and New Testaments is a God of judgment but He is also
a God of mercy- and we can all be glad of both of those facts. It is His mercy
that protects us from His judgment. Think with me on the subject the mercy of
God.
I. BOTH TESTAMENTS
EXTOL THE MERCY OF GOD
1. God’s Mercy is Promised [Ps. 103:11, 17; Luke 1:50]
2. God’s Mercy is For Them that Fear Him [Luke 1:72, Ps.
89:2]
3. God’s Mercy is Multiplied [Ps. 51:1, Jude 2]
II. CHARACTERISTICS
OF GOD’S MERCY
1. God’s Mercies are Tender [Luke 1:78, Ps. 103:4, 119:77]
2. God’s Mercies are Rich [Ps. 86:5, 15; 1 Peter 1:3]
3. God’s Mercies are Manifold [Neh. 9:19,27; Rm. 12:1] not
just numerous in number but in kind
III. OBTAINING GOD’S
MERCIES
1. Many are Included in Salvation [Titus 3:1-7, Ps. 85:7-10]
2. Many are Revealed as we Glory in Christ Alone [Ps.
147:11, Gal. 6:12-16]
3. Many are Obtained in Answer to Prayer [Heb. 4:16, Ps.
6:2]
