Deuteronomy 8:14 "Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage."
Whenever people face a natural disaster, they are forced to protect their most precious possessions. It is amazing how often those possessions turn out to be photographs of the life they have already lived! Memory is very precious thing. It can be a blessing, or it can be a cursing.
A good memory is critical to a good relationship with God. Sometimes we forget Who He is and Who He has been. We forget where we are and where we have been. We forget how weak we are and how strong God is. The human tendency is to forget.
Moses said to the children of Israel that God "humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger. . . ." That doesn't sound very nice, does it? God allowed them to hunger. Does that mean that God is not good? No, sir! He allowed all of their problems so that He could be their answer. The great danger was not starving; the great danger was being full and forgetting.
God wants you to remember what He has done. It is far better to have problems and see God, than to have no problems and not see God. Pride is mistaking God's provision for our own power. Don't let your heart be "lifted up." It is not your power; it is God's grace.
I don't know what lies before you today, but before you take a step this morning, take a moment and look back at Who God is, what He does, and what He is able to do.
