The Power You Need
Have you ever asked the wrong question? Or have you ever asked the wrong person the right question? Sometimes you can just mention something in passing and someone can take the topic and run with it! In Acts 4, we are reminded that the disciples--Peter and James in this particular case--had a one-track mind. Everything that they thought about and spoke about came back to Jesus Christ!
Some religious leaders, who were infuriated by Peter's message and his healing of a lame man, asked him in verse 7, "By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?" Talk about a loaded question! The answer came before Peter had even spoken a word: "Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost. . . ." The answer to his power was not what he said but how he said it!
These religious leaders got more than they bargained for when Peter said, "Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified. . . ." Peter's answer cut to the heart of their problem and declared the simple truth that salvation is in Jesus Christ alone (verses 10-12).
What does this all mean for you today? The power that you need today is the power that God has. I don't know what you lack this morning, but God has it. The same power that healed the lame man in the book of Acts is the same power available to you in 2010! God's power can do things that we cannot do, and He wants to use us to make a difference in the world around us.
At the end of today, if what you accomplished can be explained purely in terms of your abilities, your day was a failure because you did not rely on Christ to do in you, through you, and more than you could do. However, the encouraging news is that the power you need is the power Christ has. The power of God to save men, women, boys, and girls is not diminished in this century! The power you need to serve is likewise available, just like as it was for Peter and John (verse 13). The question is, do you have the power you need?
