THE KING’S THREE COMINGS

JOHN 12:12-19, LUKE 19:35-40

Pastor Rick Jackson

This account is also given in Mt. 21 & Mk. 11 but for times sake we’ll not turn to those portions. That Jesus is King of Kings, as well as King of the Jews is not open to question among Bible believers. Might I show you this morning a three-fold division of His kingship?

I. HIS INCARNATION AS A KING

1. Jesus was Born a King

Matthew 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

2. Jesus Spoke as a King

Mark 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

3. Jesus Exercised Kingly Authority [King of Kings-over all kingdoms]

Mark 1:27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
Matthew 12:26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

II. HIS PRESENTATION AS A KING

1. By Scriptural Confirmation

Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. [Fulfilled in Matthew 21:5]

2. By Governor’s Edict [Jn. 19:13-22]

3. By Glorious Resurrection

Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

III. HIS GLORIFICATION AS KING

1. The Gathering of His Subjects [Matthew 3]

1-3 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
11-12 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

2. The Conquering of His Enemies [2 Thessalonians 1:8-9]

In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

3. The Recognition of His Position [Philippians 2:9-11]

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
