EXODUS 26

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE FOUR COVERINGS [v. 1-14]

1. Fine Linen [v. 1-6]

The innermost covering picturing Christ’s righteousness [II Cor. 5:21]. Only visible inside the Tabernacle.

Blue=Heavenly, Purple=Royalty, Red=Earthly/sacrifice, Gold=deity

2. Goat’s Hair [v. 7-13]

The next covering pictured Christ as our substitute (the scapegoat)

Brass speaks of judgment

3. Rams skins [v. 14]

Dyed red speaks of sacrifice (remember the ram caught in the thicket?)

4. Badgers skins (possibly seal) [v. 14b]

The outer covering, seen by the unbelieving world. Isaiah 53:2 …he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

II. THE BOARDS [v. 15-30]

Gold=Deity Wood=Humanity Together=Incarnation Silver=Redemption

Psalm 96:6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

“The tabernacle proper was a solid structure over which the beautiful curtains were draped. 20 boards of acacia wood, 15’ high and 27” wide, overlaid with gold, formed the north and south walls, and 8 similar boards formed the west wall. Each of these boards stood upon 2 silver bases made from the shekels (“redemption money”) collected from the Jewish men of military age. Since the structure stood on uneven ground, these bases were necessary for stability and security. God’s sanctuary didn’t rest on the shifting sands of this world but on the solid foundation of redemption. The 48 boards were further strengthened by 4 long rods (crossbars) that ran through golden rings on each board.” -W.W. Wiersbe

III. THE HOLY PLACE & THE MOST HOLY PLACE [v. 31-37]

2. The Arrangement of the Furniture [v. 34-35]

3. The Veil For the Door [v. 36-37]

Hebrews 9:1-14, 23-28, 10:19ff
