COMPARING SCRIPTURE WITH SCRIPTURE
1 Corinthians 2:9-16, 2 Tm. 3:16-17, 1 Cor. 11
Pastor Rick Jackson
Some falsely accuse us, Fundamental Baptists, of worshipping
the Bible- a charge which is untrue. We follow the Bible because it is the Word
of the Living God. We worship God and so we follow His Word. Anyone who claims
to follow God but does not follow His Word is only fooling himself.
The idea of “Good Friday”, along with infant baptism, a
misunderstanding of the Lord’s Supper calling it a sacrament and the Mass, and
a host of other things are carry-overs from the Roman Catholic Church and are
not Biblical. In fact, they are decidedly unbiblical.
The Bible teaches God has revealed truths to us which should
be compared to other truths – not to contradict them- but to complement and
explain them [1 Corinthians 2:9-16]. In 2 Tm. 3:16-17 we find four things the
Scripture does for us: (1) Doctrine- tells us what to believe (2) reproof-
tells us what NOT to do (3) Correction- tells us what not to believe and (4)
Instruction in righteousness tells us what to do. In 1 Corinthians 11 we say
these four applications of the Word in relation to the Lord’s Supper.
I. THE APPLICATION OF
CORRECTION [1 Cor. 11:17-19] In this church were some false beliefs that
Paul has had to deal with. Heresies that need to be corrected by the Word of
God.
II. THE APPLICATION
OF REPROOF [1 Cor. 11:20-22] Often when our beliefs our wrong it can cause
our actions to be wrong as well. Paul says they were coming together, even as
we are admonished to do, but for the wrong reasons and in a wrong way. Paul
reproves them.
III. THE APPLICATION
OF DOCTRINE [1 Cor. 11:23-26] Here the Apostle reminds them why they were
coming together. The emphasis is on Christ, His Blood, His Body, His Coming
Again- our blessed Hope!
IV. THE APPLICATION
OF INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS [1 Cor. 11:27-34] After he reminds them what
to believe, Paul reminds them of what to do- how to approach the Lord’s table.

PSALM 121:1
THE
POWER OF A SINGLE VERSE
Pastor
Rick Jackson
I. THE HILLS OF HELP
1. Mt. Sinai – where I learned my sin [Nehemiah 9:13 Thou camest down also upon mount
Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true
laws, good statutes and commandments:]
2. Mt. Calvary - where I met my Saviour [Luke 23:33 And when they were come to the place,
which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on
the right hand, and the other on the left.] “Years I spent in vanity and
pride…”
3. Mt. Olivet – where my Saviour will return to reign [Acts
1:9-12, Zechariah 14:4 And his
feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before
Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst
thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great
valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it
toward the south.]
II. THE HUMILITY OF
HELP
1. The Right Decision – “I Will” [Luke 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will
say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, John 5:40
And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life., John 7:17 If any man will
do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I
speak of myself.]
2. The Right Direction – “Lift up mine eyes” [Heb. 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that
was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at
the right hand of the throne of God.]
3. The Right Desire – “From whence cometh my help” [v. 2, Hebrews
4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.]
III. THE HINDRANCE OF
HELP
1. Not Calling even when it is available [Jeremiah 33:3 Call
unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which
thou knowest not.]
2. Not Looking to Him even though He has invited you [Is.
1:18, Mt. 11:28-30]
3. Not Considering He has your best interests at Heart [Jeremiah
29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts
of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.]

Abortion: Is It Really a Matter of Life and Death?

The Bible does have a great deal to say about the status of life before birth. (View in Browser) | |||||||||

John R. Rice Quotes of the Week
How many times shall we forgive one who sins against us? Peter thought seven times would be the perfect number; but Jesus answered back, "I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven." And when you have forgiven the same person 490 times, no doubt you would have lost count and would have conquered that wicked disposition to temper and bitterness in your own heart! - John R. Rice
Ephesians 4:26 commands us, "Let not the sun go down upon your wrath." A grudge, if left in your heart overnight, may so take root as to embitter your whole life and ruin your testimony. So daily, before sundown every day, search out your heart, judge every little grudge, every bit of enmity, every slightest passion of unforgiveness. Confess it to God as a sin and turn your heart away from it, and God will take it out and cleanse it. But if you do not forgive, neither will you be forgiven.- John R. Rice
Covetousness, too, is a most respectable sin and is found in the "best families." But it is a sin that God hates terribly. It is literally idolatry (Col. 3:5), and the covetous man is an idolator (Eph. 5:5). And God's Word says that "the love of money is the root of all evil (I Tim. 6:10), that is, literally, that the love of money can lead to every kind of sin in the world. - John R. Rice
And those who sing, "Oh, How I Love Jesus," but do not love him a dime's worth out of a dollar will not get far in their praying. If you cannot trust God to supply your need and to repay you for all the tithes and offerings you bring in for Him, you have not much faith. - John R. Rice
The natural mind is a stranger from God and is not interested in the Bible. And the carnal or undeveloped and untaught and unspiritual Christian is likely to have no taste for the Word of God. A state of disinterestedness in the Bible is an unspiritual state, a state of backsliding and sin. - John R. Rice
If I regard iniquity in my heart God will not hear me. I am a sinner, but, oh, I must not love sin. And if I hold any particular sin in my heart and love it, and make an alibi for it, and excuse it, and cover it up - then that becomes a cause of controversy between me and God. God hates sin, but God has a remedy for sin. If we Christians confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, says I John 1:9. So it is not primarily the fact of sin, but it is a love for sin, a willingness to sin, an excusing of sin that make it so God cannot answer our prayers. - John R. Rice
If you want to get along with God and keep sweet fellowship and have your prayers answered, then you must judge your sins. You must honestly confess your sins and take sides with God against them. There must be a wholehearted repentance, that is, the turning of the will away from all things that grieve God. Otherwise your will is dead set against the will of God. You cannot ask anything in the name of Christ, you cannot pray in the Spirit, you cannot pray according to the Word of God, your own conscience will not allow you to believe that God will bless you while you have set your own will up as an idol, or when some secret sin has your heart's devotion which ought to be given to God alone. - John R. Rice
