Question of the Week-How Can Someone Start a New Life in Christ?

Graciously provided by the good folks at AIG
Christ Offers New Life—Find Out How!

How Can Someone Start a New Life in Christ?
How Can Someone Start a New Life in Christ?
Can you imagine living in a perfect world? There was a perfect relationship between the Creator God and man; there was no death, disease, or suffering. Fear between man and animals was nonexistent, and every emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual need of Adam and Eve was met by their Creator.

Sin has now corrupted everything (Genesis 3; Romans 8:20–22). But God had an eternal plan.

John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

Some enemies of the Bible talk about worship of the Bible and call it bibliolatry and say people ought not worship the Word of God. The Bible itself has no such warning. Of course it is true we do not worship the Bible but worship the God of the Bible. But when Jesus said we are to keep these sacredly, love them, abide in them, hide them in our heart, every honest Christian should most reverently, lovingly, continually meditate in these words, the book of God, the Bible. - John R. Rice

Where a man is not interested, plenty of Scripture will make him interested. Where a man has no sense of sin, the Scripture will show him his sin. There are plenty of Scriptures on sin. Where people have perverted ideas, plenty of Scriptures will correct them. The Word of God convicts people and they are saved. Then you use the Word to give them assurance of salvation. It is your tool not only for your own blessing but for your own ministry.
God give us a heart to use this miracle Book, the Word of God. - John R. Rice

Some people have an idea that faith is absolutely floating in the air and independent of any relation to God's Word. No! "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17). When you find something that God said in the Bible, then He will fulfill that promise. If God tells you to ask for something, then you can ask for it with confidence, and you read in the Bible and find out what kind of things to pray for. - John R. Rice

Another thing the Bible does for us is to give us daily guidance. Suppose some Christian girl prays, "O God, show me whether I ought to marry this lost boy or not. I know he is a drunkard, Lord, but I love him, and his hair is waved so pretty."
You need not waste your breath. Why not turn to II Corinthians 6:14 and you will see that you don't have to pray about that. God said, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" Why waste your time praying when God has already told you what to do? A large percent of your praying for guidance where you do not get an answer is because you won't take what God has already given in the Bible. The Holy Spirit who wrote the Bible is the same Holy Spirit you have to depend on for guidance now, and you insult His written instructions and then expect Him to give you secret instructions. The Holy Spirit has an affinity for a heart that loves and follows the Word. - John R. Rice

Think with me for a bit about living by the Bible, or Jesus and his Bible. The Bible stands so high in God's estimation, it is a pity that it does not stand higher in ours. The first Psalm says: "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." - John R. Rice

No true fact of scientific or secular knowledge contradicts any truth of the Bible. However, when ungodly men make claims of facts that deny Bible truth, the claims are "profane and vain babblings," and to be avoided. The Bible is absolute authority. Therefore, the Graf-Wellhausen theory, denying the Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch, and so on, taught by unsaved men, is to be rejected. The vague theories of the evolutionary origin of man are unfounded, "science falsely so called." God's people are to avoid them as other heathen myths- unproven, satanic, and unchristian. - John R. Rice

That the Bible is the key to prosperity and success in everything is given in Joshua, chapter 1. The Lord said, 'Moses my servant is dead. But I am not dead, Joshua. As I was with Moses, so will I be with thee.' Let's not worry when a Moses dies; God will have a Joshua. It doesn't matter too much about what particular individual God chooses to use as a vessel just so long just so long as we have a God ready to raise up another vessel. - John R. Rice

What Questions Will God Answer?

Bill Rice Ranch - First Light Devotionals
Judges 13: 12, 17 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware... And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?

At this stage of my life, I am sometimes discouraged by how little I know. Thankfully,  God knows everything! All the questions that I have correspond to the answers that God knows. God can answer my questions, but will God answer every question? The answer is clearly "no."

In Judges 13 God sent a messenger to Manoah and his wife to tell them of a special child, a deliverer, that God would give them. His name was to be Samson, and he would be used by God in a special way to begin a deliverance of God's people from their enemies. I love what the Bible says in verse 8-9, "Then Manoah intreated the LORD...and God hearkened to the voice of Manoah." Often it is found in the Bible that someone asks and God answers.

So, what questions can we expect answers to when it comes to our questions of God? In verse 12 Manoah had a question for God's messenger. He essentially asked, "What do we need to do to honor God with this child?" The angel gave him a very quick answer. He basically stated what he had already said to Manoah's wife when he instructed her how to raise this child.

In verse 17, Manoah asks an even simpler question, "What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?" Now that is such an easy question that one would think there would be no problem in giving an answer, but the angel of the LORD said unto him, "Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?" When have you ever asked someone their name and not expected to get some kind of an answer?

Now there's probably more to this than we are going to go into at this moment, but suffice it to say, whatever else Manoah's intent, his question was born of curiosity. In verse 12, his question was born of submission. God is not obliged to satisfy your curiosity, but He has obliged Himself to give you the grace you need to respond to Him in complete submission.

Anything you need to know in order to honor God, God will give you. Will God answer every question just to satisfy your curiosity? No. But will God provide every answer you need to do His will? Yes. Submission often yields answers that curiosity cannot. So, trust God, turn your questions toward Him, and be encouraged that you will know as much as you need to know in order to honor Him with your actions and your life.

Question of the Week: Happy Pi Day! How Does Math Confirm the Bible?

Happy Pi Day! How Does Math Confirm the Bible?

Pi
Celebrate Einstein's Birthday with Pi
Today is March 14, 2015 or 3.14.15. That string of numbers looks familiar to many of us because they are the first five digits of pi: 3.1415. This date is also unique because it's the famous physicist Dr. Albert Einstein's birthday. What causes pi to be the same today and tomorrow? Why do the laws of physics operate in predictable ways?

John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

"That is way back in the Old Testament," you argue.
Yes, but fortunately the God who wrote the Old Testament wrote a New Testament, too. - John R. Rice

Because the tendency is so strong to be hypocritical in prayer, most of our praying should be in secret to be heard only by God. Otherwise, we may well pray to be heard of men. Flowery prayers and beauticul cliches do not appeal to God. Anything, such as organ music during prayer, intended to appeal to the sensual or to the aesthetic, rather than to God, Jesus called hypocritical. - John R. Rice

The Bible never gives a command without good reason. It is always safe to follow the Bible because there are always weighty reasons why one's own happiness will be promoted by doing what God said. God loves His children. God provided everything good for mankind. When the Scripture says, "Thou shalt not," then one had better not. One will be happier not to do it. When God says to do a certain thing, you may be sure that your own happiness and joy will be greatly increased by doing what God commanded. - John Rice

When I say I am a Baptist, I do not have reference to being part of an iron-bound sect or denomination. I am a Baptist because I believe in the independence of a local church, in converted church membership, baptism of believers only and baptism by immersion. In other words, I am what Baptists have been historically in doctrine and in convictions. - John R. Rice

People say, "These days God does not want people to die for Him. He wants them to live for Him." Find me the chapter and verse for that, will you? It isn't there! It hasn't been changed. If you follow Jesus, it is Calvary and Gethsemane, and shame and spitting. First the cross, and then after a while, the crown! - John R. Rice

I am sorry that we do not have more preaching on sin. We do not have much punishment for sin. In a Christian academy like this everyone gripes. Everybody complains if there are strict rules. And if people are expected to act like Christians, they fuss about that. We do not, these days, have much sharp Bible teaching and preaching about sin. But we should have. God is a dreadful God because God is going to punish sin. [Neh. 1:5, Daniel 9:4, Heb. 10:31] - John R. Rice

Somebody says you believe in the inspiration of the thought but not of the words. Really, nobody can ever express a thought until he gets some words. Words go with thought.
How can you have written music without notes? Or arithmetic without figures? Or thoughts without words? "Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teacheth." Paul says, "I give you divine inspiration, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth: compari...ng spiritual things with spiritual." The American Standard Version of 1901 says, "Comparing spiritual things [matter, content] with spiritual words."
God gives both the content and words of the Bible. That is a great doctrine often repeated in the Bible, that the Holy Spirit gives the material of the Bible, in miraculously given words. Of course He speaks of the original manuscripts. - John R. Rice
