HANDLING CHASTENING THE GRACE WAY

HEBREWS 12:1-4

I. WHY DOES GOD CHASTEN CHRISTIANS?

1. We are His Children [v. 5, 7-9, Jn. 1:12]

2. We are Loved [v. 6, Pr. 13:24]

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

3. We are Profited by Chastening [v. 10-11]

 

II. WHY DO CHRISTIANS COMPLAIN?

1. They Forget God’s Word [v. 5, Pr. 3:11-12]

My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

2. They Forget God’s Position [v. 7-9]

3. They Forget God’s Purpose [v. 9-11, Rm. 8:29]

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren

 

III. WHAT SHOULD CHRISTIANS DO?

1. Prayer and Praise [v. 12]

2. Walk the Straight Path [v. 13-14]

3. Remember, it’s Given not Earned, it’s Grace not Works [v. 15-29]
