GOOD WEDNESDAY, PASSOVER, & THE LORD’S SUPPER

EXODUS 12:1-8

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. A SIMPLE EXPLANATION  [Ex. 12, Is. 53]

1. The Lamb illustrating the Submissive Messiah [Ex. 12:1-8, Is. 53:7]

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

2. The Unleavened Bread illustrating the Sinless Messiah [Ex. 12:8, Is. 53:10]

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

3. The Bitter Herbs illustrating the Suffering Messiah [Ex. 12:8, Is. 53:4-6]

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

II. A NECESSARY SALVATION [Ex. 12, Jn. 1]

1. “A Lamb” showing the Necessity of the Substitute Lamb [Ex. 12:3]

2. “The Lamb” showing the Necessity of the Specific Lamb [Ex. 12:4, Jn. 1:29]

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

3. “Your Lamb” showing the Necessity of the Personal Lamb [Ex. 12:5, Jn. 1:12, 1 Cor. 5:7]

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

III. AN IMPORTANT PREPARATION [1 Cor. 11:18-34]

 1. The Right Reason [v. 18-22]

2. The Right Remembrance [v. 23-26]

3. The Right Reflection [v. 27-34]
