LOOKING & LOOKING & LOOKING

HEBREWS 10:27, 12:2, 15

Pastor Rick Jackson

I dare say every one of us has looked for something. It might be something we have misplaced, or it might be someplace we have heard of, or it might be something we can't even see with our eyes or handle with our hands... like peace of heart.

God uses the term "looking" three times in the book of Hebrews. Each one is quite important to every person who has ever drawn breath.

So, what are you looking for?

It is a well-known fact that we don't always find what we are looking for. Sometimes we don't find what we were looking to find but we find something better and sometimes instead of what we were looking for- we find something worse.

I. ARE YOU LOOKING FOR TROUBLE?

The songwriter wrote, "If you are looking for trouble you came to the right place..." I heard a man once say, "I give my boys plenty of trouble at home, so they don't have to go looking for it."

And yet, people look for trouble of the worst kind.

1. Anyone can see there is only One Sacrifice for sins acceptable to God [10:1-14]

2. Everyone can be changed by accepting God's Word on this matter [10:15-25]

3. Somebody who rejects Christ is looking for trouble of the worst kind, the judgement of God [10:26-31]

II. ARE YOU LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT EXAMPLE?

1. The Right Inspiration [12:1-2a]

2. The Right Consideration [12:2-4]

3. The Right Exhortation [12:5-11]

III. ARE YOU LOOKING THE RIGHT WAY?

Sometimes we don't find what we are looking for because we don't look the right way.

1. Beware the Wrong Path! [12:12-13]

2. Beware the Wrong Peace! [12:14]

Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

3. Beware the Wrong Plant! [12:15]
