TWO CHRISTMAS CAROLS

LUKE 19:1-10

Pastor Rick Jackson

Thanks to the media most of us have heard of Ebenezer Scrooge and the change in his life to honor Christmas all year long. Charles dickens, a professing Christian, wrote an excellent story showing the power of a changed life. In the Bible, Dr. Luke shows us the same truth- in 10 verses.

I. THE OLD MAN

1. Had Earthly Position [v. 2]

2. Had Earthly Wealth [v. 2]

3. Had Great Need [v. 3]

II. THE SPIRITS

1. The Spirit of Christmas Past- God the Father

Jn. 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Acts 2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

2. The Spirit of Christmas Present- the Holy Spirit [Jn. 16:7-13]

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

3. The Spirit of Christmas Future- Christ [Eph. 2:7]

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

III. THE NEW MAN

1. Converted [v. 1, 5-6]

2. Changed [v. 7-8]

3. Challenged [v. 9-10]
