ALONE WITH GOD

GENESIS 8

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. GOD ALONE [v. 1-5]

Who could Noah and his family trust in during this unprecedented activity? Who could have produced this activity? Whose holiness and mercy demanded the activity? Whose grace allowed for the salvation of the human race and the animal kingdom? The answer(s) is of course...God alone!

1. GOD REMEMBERED! [v. 1]

Genesis 19:29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

Genesis 30:22 And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

Exodus 2:24And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

1 Samuel 1:19And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

Psalm 98:3He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God

Revelation 18:5For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

THE LORD HATH NOT FORGOTTEN... GOD REMEMBERS!

2. GOD RESTRAINS [v. 1b-2]

The events of 7:11 have done their work and now are restrained. It seems that for the time being even what will be considered "normal" rain is likewise restrained.

3. GOD REFORMS [v. 3-5]

Through all this volcanic and hydrological activity the world has been destroyed and remade in a completely different form. It is not as stable as before in terms of weather and tectonic activity.

2 Peter 3:6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

Psalm 104:6-9 Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

II. NOAH ALONE [v. 6-14]

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Genesis 7:23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

1. THE RAVEN SCAVENGES [v. 6-7]

2. THE DOVE SEARCHES [v. 8-12]

3. THE DELAY SOLIDIFIES [v. 13-14]

III. FAITH ALONE [v. 15-22]

1. THE DELIVERANCE BY FAITH [v. 15-19, Heb. 11:7]

2. THE DEMONSTRATION OF FAITH [v. 20]

3. THE DELIGHT IN FAITH [v. 21-22]

Hebrews 11:6-7 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith
