“IF” NOT “IFFY”

PSALM 66:18

I. THE PROBLEM – Iniquity Regarding

1. The Problem is Personal  [Rm. 3:9-23]

2. The Problem is Pervading [1 Jn. 5:19]

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness

3. The Problem is Perverse [Pr. 11:3]

The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

 

II. THE PLACE – Internally Residing

1. The Heart is Wicked [Jer. 17:9]

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

2. The Heart is Wanton [James 5:5] “seeking luxury”

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

3. The Heart is Willful [Jer. 18:12]

-And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.

 

III. THE PRODUCT – Intense Response

1. Divine Decision – “The Lord will” [Eph. 5:17]

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

2. Divine Determination “The Lord will NOT” [Ex. 20:7]

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

3. Divine Deafness – “The Lord will not hear me” [Is. 59:2]

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

 

IV. THE PREVENTION – “IF”, note the context in verses 9-20
