Luke 2:8-14
Pastor Rick

I. GLORY
TO GOD
1. Christ’s
Person, the Glory of Israel in His Incarnation [Luke 2:32] A light to
lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
2. Christ’s
Passion, the Glory of Redemption
[Luke 24:26,
1 Cor. 2:8, Gal. 6:14]
-Ought not
Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
- Which none
of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory.
- But God
forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom
the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
3. Christ’s
Presence, the Glory of the World
[Luke 21:27,
Jude 25, Rev. 1:6]
-And then
shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
- To the
only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now
and for ever. Amen.
-And hath
made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion
for ever and ever. Amen.
II. AND
ON EARTH PEACE
1. The Presence
of the God of Peace
[Rm. 15:33,
16:20, 2 Cor. 13:11, Phil. 4:9]
-Now the God
of peace be with you all. Amen.
-And the God
of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
-Finally,
brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in
peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
- Those
things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me,
do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
2. Peace
with God [Romans 5:1, 8-9]
-Therefore
being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
- But God
commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved
from wrath through him.
3. Peace of
God [Phil. 4:7, Col. 3:15]
-And the
peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus.
-And let the
peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be ye thankful.
III. GOOD
WILL TOWARD MEN
1. God’s
Will is Salvation [2 Peter 3:9]
-The Lord is
not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is
longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance.
2. God’s
Will is Submission [Jm. 4:13-17]
- Go to now,
ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue
there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be
on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a
little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will,
we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all
such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it
not, to him it is sin.
3. God’s
Will is Transformation [Rm.
12:2, Heb. 13:21]
-And be not
conformed to this world: but be ye trans-formed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
-Make you
perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is
wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and
ever. Amen.
