THE SECOND COMING BEATITUDES of 2 PETER 3

Pastor Rick Jackson

When Simon Peter was privileged by the Spirit of God to write what we have as 8 chapters in our Bibles he doesn’t even get 10 verses in 1 Peter 1 before he is talking about the second coming of Jesus Christ. Like Paul in 1st & 2nd Thessalonians Peter mentions some aspect of the Lord’s return in all of the 8 chapters of 1st & 2nd Peter culminating in the last Bible chapter Peter would ever write where he, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, gives us what I am calling the Second Coming Beatitudes.

1. BE MINDFUL OF THE SECOND COMING [v. 1-2]

-it’s stirring [v. 1]

-it’s Scriptural [v. 2]

-it’s Substantiated [v. 2]

2. BE NOT IGNORANT OF THE SECOND COMING  [v. 3-10]

-know that there will be scoffers [v. 3-4]

-know that they are willing ignorant [v. 5-6]

-know that God is long-suffering, locked-in and loaded [v. 7-10]

3. BE HOLY IN EXPECTATION OF THE SECOND COMING [v. 11] it’s all about what lasts

4. BE DILIGENT IN EXPECTATION OF THE SECOND COMING [v. 12-14]

-it’s God’s day [v. 12]

-it’s God’s Word [v. 13]

-it’s God’s way [v. 14]

5. BEWARE LEST YE MINIMIZE THE SECOND COMING [v. 15-18]

-beware lest you become unlearned & unstable [v. 15-16]

- beware lest you be misled [v. 17a]

- beware lest you stagnate [v. 17b-18]

BE IN THE WAY

GENESIS 24:27

Pastor Rick Jackson

There is one correct interpretation of each and every Scripture but there are many valid applications which can be made.

I. THE WORK OF THE SERVANT [v. 1-9]

1.Commissioned [v. 1-4]

2. Conditioned [v. 5-6]

3. Cooperative [v. 7-9] You do your part, God does his part

II. THE WALK OF THE SERVANT [v. 10-25]

1. Walk Responsibly [v. 10-11]

2. Walk Prayerfully [v. 12-14]

3. Walk Expectantly [v. 15-25]

III. THE WAY OF THE SERVANT [v. 26-67]

1. Right Worship [v. 26, Jn. 4:22-24]

Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

2. Right Way [v. 27] are you doing generally what you know to do until He guides you specifically?

3. Right Willingness [v. 28-67, John 3:30] note when the Master comes the servant willingly “decreases”

John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

OH- IT SHOULD BE VERY PERSONAL!

JOHN 1:10-12

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. IT WAS PERSONAL TO OLD TESTAMENT BELIEVERS

1. Job spoke of “My Redeemer” [Job 19:25] For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

2. David too, but added “My Shepherd [Ps. 19:14, Ps. 23:1]

-Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

- The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

3. Daniel testified of “My God” [Dan. 6:22] My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions mouths, that they have not hurt me:

II. IT WAS PERSONAL TO NEW TESTAMENT BELIEVERS

1. Elisabeth and others recognized “My Lord” [Luke 1:43] And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

2. Mary rejoiced in “God My Saviour” [Luke 1:47] And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

3. Thomas worshipped “My Lord and my God” [Jn. 20:24-29]

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

III. IT IS PERSONAL TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!

1. Jesus calls Christians “My Church” [Mt. 16:15-18]

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it

2. Jesus calls those that do His will “My Brethren” [Lk. 8:20-21, Hebrews 2:11]

- And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

- For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

3. Jesus calls believers “My Sheep” [Jn. 10:26-27] But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

4. Jesus calls those that obey Him “My friends” [Jn. 15:14-15] Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

5. Jesus calls us “My disciples” [Jn. 13:35] Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

A SIN UNTO DEATH

1 JOHN 5:16-17

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. RIGHTLY DIVIDING [v. 14-17, 2 Tm. 2:15]

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1. Praying in the Will of God [v. 14-15]

2. Praying for the Will of God [v. 16, James 1:5]

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

3. Praying According to the Will of God [v. 16-17, Jeremiah 7:16, 11:14, 14:11]

-Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

-Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

-Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

II. RIGHTLY DEMONSTRATED [v. 16-17]

1. A Sin of a Christian [v. 16] so physical death not the second death is meant here

One of the basic rules of Bible interpretation is “When the plain sense, makes good sense, seek no other sense.”

2. A Sin of Individuality [v. 16-17]

-Ananias & Sapphira [Acts 5:1-11

-Corinthian Christians [1 Cor. 11:30] For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

-Moses & Aaron, Achan, the unnamed prophet of 1 Kings 13, et cetera

3. A Sin of Conclusion [v. 16]

III. RIGHTLY DEVELOPED [v. 18-21]

1. Assurance of the Brother’s Salvation [v. 18] context

Another of the basic rules of Bible interpretation is “A text without a context is a pretext”

2. A Reminder of Our “Bad” Situation [v. 19]

3. Advantage of Studied Sanctification [v. 20-21, John 17:17, 19; Eph. 5:26, 1 Peter 3:15]

-Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

-And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

-That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word

-But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

IN WHAT SHOULD YOU GLORY?

JEREMIAH 9:23-26

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. DO NOT GLORY IN TEMPORAL THINGS [1 Cor. 1:29] That no flesh should glory in his presence

1. Do Not Glory in Wisdom [v. 23, Ecclesiastes 1:16-18]

I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

2. Do Not Glory in Might [v. 23, 1 Corinthians 1:26]

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

3. Do Not Glory in Riches [v. 23, Ps. 49:6-9, 1 Timothy 6:17]

-They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

- Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

II. GLORY IN GOD

1. In Understanding God through Salvation [v. 24, Psalm 47:7, 1 John 5:20]

- For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

- And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

2. In Knowing God [v. 24, 3-6, 1 John 4:7]

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.]

3, In Knowing the Works of God [v. 24]

III. GLORY IN THE THINGS THAT COUNT

1. God’s Lovingkindness [v. 24, 32:18, 33:11]

2. God’s Judgment [v. 24-26, 4:2, 33:15]

3. God’s Righteousness [v. 24, 4:2, 2 Corinthians 3:9, Philippians 1:11]

For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

-Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

JESUS COUNTRY

LUKE 4:16-30

Pastor Rick Jackson

As you drive around you may see bumper stickers, tags or signs that say, "This is FORD country", or "This is GATOR country." You might even see "This is NOLE country." My question is, is this Jesus Country? Is your heart Jesus Country? How about your work? Is your home Jesus Country? In the Bible we find several  areas that had problems being "Jesus Country." Let's look because we might encounter the same problems.

 I. FEAR GIVES WAY TO FAITH IN JESUS COUNTRY [LUKE 8:26-36]

1. Misplaced Fear [v. 26-37]

2. Mission Followed [v. 38-39]

3. Marvel Focused [Mark 5:20, 7:31-37]

-And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

-And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

II. POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH JESUS COUNTRY [LUKE 9:51-56]

1. Their Perception [v. 51-53] earthly misunderstanding of a Heavenly mission

2. Their Prejudice [v. 52-53]

3. His Purpose [v. 54-56] better to be Biblical correct than politically correct

III. PRIORITIES ARE DIFFERENT IN JESUS COUNTRY [LUKE 10:1-20]

1. The Hopeless Sin of Not Receiving Christ [v. 1-12, Heb. 10:26-29]

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

2. The Horrible Sin of Not Responding Correctly [v. 13-14]

3. The Heavenly Satisfaction of Receiving & Representing Christ [v. 15-20]

-It is better to be laughed at on your way to Heaven than cheered on your way to Hell.

I KNOW, I KNOW WHY I KNOW, AND I KNOW YOU CAN KNOW TOO

1 JOHN 5

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE VICTORY [v. 1-6]

1. The Victory is in the New Birth [v. 1, 1 Cor. 15:54]

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

2. The Victory is in the New Lifestyle [v. 2-3, 2 Cor. 5:17] as opposed to the old deathstyle

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

3. The Victory is in the Faith [v. 4-6, Jn. 3:5-6] “new” to us at salvation

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

II. THE RECORD [v. 7-13]

1. The Record is a Heavenly Record [v. 7]

2. The Record is an Earthly Record [v. 8]

3. The Record is a Written Record [v. 9-13]

III. THE KNOWLEDGE [v. 14-21]

1. The Knowledge of Confidence in Prayer [v. 14-17]

2. The Knowledge of the New Nature [v. 18-19]

3. The Knowledge of True God & Saviour [v. 20-21]

WHAT CAN I DO WHEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO?

JOHN 21:1-7

Pastor Rick Jackson

I. THE RELEASE OF REST [v. 8-14]

1. Come Apart so that you don’t Come Apart [Mk. 6:31, Pr. 17:22]

- And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

- A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

2. Rest and Recharge [1 Kings 19:4-8]

But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

3. Pray, Give Thanks, & Study [1 Thessalonians 5:17-20, 2 Tm. 2:15]

-Pray without ceasing.

-In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

-Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings.

-Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

II. REFOCUS ON THE RELATIONSHIP [v. 15-17]

1. Jesus Taught- Don’t Worry, Trust God [Mt. 6:25-34, Jn. 13:33-14:1, 25-27]

- Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

- Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews , Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another . Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

- These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

2. The Bible Teaches- When Choosing, Chose the Good Part [Lk. 10:41-42, 1 Cor. 12:31]

- And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

-But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

3. Paul Taught- Don’t Worry, Talk to God [Phil. 4:4-7]

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

III. REPRIORITIZE [v, 15-22]

1. Be Right [1 Cor. 6:19-20]

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

2. Think Right [Phil. 4:8]

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

3. Do Right [James 1:22-25]

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

JUST CHECKING

2 CORINTHIANS 4:8-9

Pastor Rick Jackson

An application of verse 9 might be “knocked down but not knocked out”. That certainly seems appropriate on some days. Have you ever felt like you had gone 15 rounds of boxing at the end of a long day? Stress is an everyday occurrence for most people… who are those others? How we handle stress says much about us and much about our relationship to God. How can we handle stress without becoming distressed? How about using Paul’s triple check?

I. REALITY CHECK [v. 1]     As Christians:

1. - we are saved [v. 1, 1:18-24]

2. - we are aware others need to be saved [v. 1]

3. - we are given THE ministry to show others how to be saved [v. 1, 5:17-21]

II. RESPONSIBILITY CHECK [v. 2-7]   As Christians:

1. - we have a responsibility to Walk Right [v. 2]

2. - we have a responsibility to Talk Right [v. 3-6]

3. - we have a responsibility to Trust Right [v. 7, Pr. 3:5-7ff]

III. REFOCUS CHECK [v. 8-18] like a pilot’s pre-flight check

1. Die to Worry [v. 8-12]

According to statistics 40% of our worries never come to pass, 30% involve past decisions which cannot be changed, 12% focus on criticism from others who spoke simply because they felt inferior, 10% focus on our health- which just gets worse if we worry. So that leaves 8% of our worries that can actually be labeled “legitimate” causes for our attention. If we quit wasting time on the other 88% we’d have more time and energy to handle the mere 8% that will happen.

A soldier in WWII had the right idea. He carried a little card to help him deal with worry. It said, “Of 2 things, 1 is certain. Either you are at the front or behind the lines. If you are at the front, of 2 things, 1 is certain. Either you are exposed to danger or you are in a safe place. If you are exposed to danger, of 2 things, 1 is certain. Either you are wounded or you are not wounded. If you are wounded, of 2 things, 1 is certain. Either you recover or you die. If you recover there is no need to worry. If you die, you cannot worry. SO WHY WORRY?

2. Dare to Believe [v. 13-14]

3. Despair to Despair [v. 15-18]

IS LOVE REALLY ALL YOU NEED?

1 JOHN 4

Pastor Rick Jackson

Contrary to a popular song in 1967 - love is NOT all you need.

I. WE NEED TO TRY THE SPIRITS

1. By the Incarnation of Christ [v. 1-3, 2 Jn. 7, 9]

-For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

- Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

2. By the Indwelling Holy Spirit [v. 4]

3. By the Inspired Word [v. 5-6, 2 Jn. 9-10]

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

II. WE NEED TO LOVE LIKE GOD

1. The Matter of God’s Love [v. 7-8]

2. The Manifestation of God’s Love [v. 9]

3. The Marvelousness of God’s Love [v. 10]

III. WE NEED TO BE GODLY

1. The Needed Indwelling [v. 11-15]

2. The Natural Assurance [v. 16-18]

3. The Necessary Commandment [v. 19-21]

LIFE OUT OF CONTROL

JOB 1:13-19

Pastor Rick Jackson

When we think of life out of control we often think of situations out of our personal control [like a hurricane] but that is not the only way the Bible depicts a life out of control. Consider with me:

I. MOST PEOPLE LIVE UNCONTROLLED LIVES

1. An Unconcerned Life is an Uncontrolled Life [Lk. 12:16-21]

And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that loadeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

2. An Unbelieving Life is an Uncontrolled Life [Heb. 3:12, 19, 4:6, 11]

- Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

- So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

- Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein , and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

- Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

3. An Unconfessed Life is an Uncontrolled Life [Pr. 28:13]

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

II. THE WORLD IS INTERESTED [regardless of what they may say-they are interested]

1. The World is Wanting (in more ways than one) [Dan. 5:27, Amos 8:11]

- TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

- Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

2. The World is Watching [Mt. 5:16]

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

3. The World is Waiting (in more ways than one) [Micah 7:2, Lk. 11:54, Jn. 5:3, Eph. 4:14]

- The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

- Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

- In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

- That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness , whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

III. THE CONTROLLED LIVES OF FAITHFUL

1. A Controlled Life Requires the Saviour [Rm. 10:1-13]

2. A Controlled Life Requires the Scripture [Rm. 10:14-17]

3. A Controlled Life Requires the Sovereign [Rm. 14:9, 2 Corinthians 10:5, 2 Peter 3:18]

- For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

-Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

-But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever . Amen.

TALK ABOUT JESUS

TALK ABOUT JESUS

ACTS 8:26-35

 Pastor Rick Jackson

Let's talk about Jesus; the King of kings is He,

The Lord of lords supreme, throughout eternity

The Great I am, the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Door

Let's talk about Jesus more and more!

I. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE HANDICAPS OF JESUS

1. A Child Conceived of an Unwed Mother [Lk. 1:30-34]

And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

2. A Commoner of an Enslaved People [Lk. 2:1-5]

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

3. A Citizen of a Disreputable Town [Jn. 1:45-46]

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

II. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE HOLINESS OF JESUS

1. Born Without a Sin Nature [Lk. 1:35]

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

2. Lived Without Committing Sin [Heb. 4:15]

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

3. Lived Without Omitting Righteousness [James 4:17, Acts 10:38]

- Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

- How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. - Peter

III. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE HUMANITY OF JESUS

1. He Left It All [2 Cor. 8:9]

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

2. He Gave It All [Jn. 10:11-18]

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

3. He Paid It All [1 Tm. 2:6, 1 Jn. 2:1-2]

-Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

-My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
