John R. Rice Quotes of the Week

Are there those who say that the virgin birth is inconsequential, that to believe it or not doesn't matter? They are fools. Yea, more than that, they are wicked unbelievers. Those who speak lightly of the virgin birth do not accept the awful fallen state of a race of sinners that must be redeemed. They do not fathom the atonement on the cross, nor the marvelous salvation by God's grace for condemned sinners. Oh, if God has become man, if an entire race is to be brought back from Hell's ruin and offered salvation, and if an endless eternity is to rejoice in the marvel of God's salvation for sinners, then do not expect all this to occur in some ordinary, routine manner. Only a miracle of God could make God a man. - John R. Rice

Fathers, listen to me. Unless you want to ruin your family, I would not touch it. I wouldn't do it- not a glass of wine, not a glass of beer, not a toddy at Christmas, nor eggnog. If you do, a time will come when you reap it in your children. - John R. Rice

Do you not see again, as we sing about the Christmas story, that the virgin birth of Christ is far better than any fairy tales of Santa Claus and reindeer and sleighs? Do you not see that the story of the announcement to the shepherds and the Wise Men coming from the east is far more joy and blessing than the worldly festivities and drunkenness and feasting and revelry? Let us rejoice then in the blessed Word of God this Christmas season. - John R. Rice

He isn't the Saviour if He isn't very God. He isn't God if He wasn't born as He was, if He didn't work miracles, and I can't believe on Him, I can't risk my soul with Him. How could you believe He made the world and then not believe Christ is more than a man? Unless you accept the miracles of the Bible you are not a Christian. The virgin birth is essential to the deity of Christ. - John R. Rice

Jesus, Baby Jesus, of a virgin mother born,
Laid in manger cradle, wrapped in swaddling clothes and warm,
Birth cry in a darkened stable, in the inn no room,
Jesus, baby Jesus, Son of God, to share earth's gloom.

Jesus, how the angels with delight the story told,
Told to Mary, Joseph and the shepherds at their fold.
Full of light, the heavens, as they chanted "peace on earth"!
Jesus, Baby Jesus, what glad news a Saviour's birth!

Wise men came to see Him, having seen His star afar,
Bro't their gifts of precious gold and frankincense and myrrh.
Herod heard, was troubled, could not kill the holy Child, Jesus, Baby Jesus, King and priest, and Saviour mild.

Jesus, Baby Jesus, There's a cross along the way.
Born to die for sinners, born for crucifixion day!
- John R. Rice
